The Rochester City School District is one of the 5 largest school Districts in New York State, employing approximately 6,000 staff members and serving approximately 22,000 students, with over 50 schools and programs.
We are excited to present our collective vision for the future of education in the Rochester City School District. Our strategic plan, crafted in collaboration with students, parents, staff, and community members, sets ambitious and achievable goals to propel us toward excellence as OneRCSD.
Rochester is the fourth largest metro in New York State. Nestled between Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes region in Upstate New York, Rochester combines small-town accessibility with big-city services. The region attracts millions of visitors to its 11 lakes, 130 wineries, 75 breweries and distilleries, and eight ski resorts. The city is easy to get to, even easier to get around, and within a six-hour drive of Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Syracuse, New York City, Toronto, and Boston. Rochester is known as a festival city with events centered around food, music, and the arts and culture scene that make it a vibrant community. It is home to the Rochester International Jazz Festival, Strong National Museum of Play, George Eastman Museum, and Lilac Festival, which attracts visitors from all over the world to beautiful Highland Park. While Rochester serves as the home territory for the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres, it also hosts several minor-league sports teams, including the Rochester Red Wings baseball team and the Rochester Americans hockey team.
