Position Overview

Road & Rail Services is hiring a dependable Railcar Preparation & Inspection Technician for our Greensburg, Indiana operation. This position is responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and preparing railcars before they are used to transport vehicles.

This is an active, hands-on role performed primarily outdoors. You will use backpack blowers, scraping tools, and other equipment to remove materials that could damage vehicles during loading or transportation. You will also inspect railcars for damage, wear, and conditions that may require attention before the railcars are released for service.

Previous railroad experience is helpful but not required. Training will be provided to candidates who demonstrate dependable attendance, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to learn.

Essential Responsibilities

Inspect railcars for damage, wear, fatigue, debris, and potential safety concerns

Clean railcar interiors using backpack blowers, scrapers, and other approved tools

Remove loose materials and contaminants that could damage vehicles during transport

Assist with safely opening, securing, and closing railcar end doors

Identify repair needs and report conditions that may be addressed by Road & Rail Services

Follow established company, customer, and industry safety requirements

Inspect assigned tools and equipment before use

Maintain accountability for company-issued tools and equipment

Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to management

Keep railcars, equipment, and surrounding work areas clean and organized

Properly wear all required personal protective equipment

Complete additional preparation, inspection, and housekeeping assignments as directed

Qualifications

Valid state-issued driver's license

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions

Strong attendance, punctuality, and dependability

Ability to work safely in a production-focused environment

Willingness to learn railcar inspection and preparation procedures

Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team

Previous experience in railroad operations, manufacturing, construction, automotive, landscaping, or outdoor labor is helpful but not required

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

Work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, dusty, and changing weather conditions

Stand and walk for extended periods, including on uneven surfaces

Frequently bend, reach, twist, kneel, and perform repetitive movements

Use backpack blowers, scraping devices, and basic hand tools

Safely open and close railcar doors

Wear required personal protective equipment throughout the workday

Maintain productivity while following all safety procedures
