Looking for a Long-Term Mechanical Career?

If you're ready to find a company where you can build a career instead of looking for your next job, Road & Rail Services is hiring a Locomotive Mechanic to join our team in Mulberry, Florida.

We're looking for dependable mechanical professionals who value steady work, job stability, consistent attendance, and opportunities to grow with a company long term. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys troubleshooting equipment, working with their hands, and seeing the results of their work every day.

Previous locomotive experience is valuable, but it isn't the only background we'll consider. Experience with diesel engines, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, electrical systems, automotive or truck repair, rail equipment, or other mechanical trades may transfer well to this position.

What You'll Be Working On

As a Locomotive Mechanic, you'll help keep locomotives and rail equipment safe, reliable, and ready for operation. Responsibilities may include:

Inspecting locomotives to identify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and operational issues

Diagnosing problems and completing necessary repairs

Performing scheduled preventive maintenance and equipment servicing

Repairing or replacing mechanical and electrical components

Working with diesel engines, generators, traction motors, compressors, air brake systems, wiring, lighting, and related equipment

Using diagnostic equipment, testing devices, hand tools, and power tools

Reading schematics, service manuals, technical instructions, and maintenance documentation

Accurately documenting inspections, repairs, and completed maintenance

Following company, customer, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety requirements

Keeping tools, equipment, and work areas organized and safe

What We're Looking For

We're especially interested in candidates who want to stay, develop their skills, and grow with our operation.

Qualified candidates should have one or more of the following:

At least 2 years of mechanical repair or maintenance experience

Experience repairing locomotives, railcars, diesel equipment, trucks, or heavy machinery

Industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience

Completion of a mechanical, diesel, electrical, or technical trade program

Strong demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

You must also be able to follow technical instructions, work safely with limited supervision, and meet applicable pre-employment and ongoing safety requirements.

Physical & Work Environment

This is an active, hands-on position performed primarily outdoors. You must be comfortable working around moving equipment and in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, dust, and noise.

The position may require you to:

Lift and carry approximately 50–60 pounds

Climb ladders and work at heights of 16 feet or more

Bend, squat, kneel, twist, reach, and stand for extended periods

Work in confined, tight, or awkward spaces when completing repairs

Build Your Future With Road & Rail
