Are you an experienced locomotive mechanic interested in making a move to Central Florida?

Road & Rail Services is seeking a skilled Composite Locomotive Repairman who is willing to relocate to Mulberry, Florida, and become part of our on-site locomotive maintenance operation.

This position is specifically intended for an experienced locomotive repair professional who is willing to relocate to the Mulberry, FL area. Relocation package available for eligible candidates. 

Once relocated, Mulberry will be your primary work location. You will perform locomotive inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair work on-site while also traveling to other locations periodically to support projects and operational needs.

This is not an entry-level mechanical position. Candidates must have previous hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing locomotives.

What You'll Do in Mulberry

Your primary responsibilities will include:

Inspecting and troubleshooting diesel locomotives

Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and operational problems

Completing scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance

Repairing and replacing locomotive components and assemblies

Troubleshooting diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, compressors, and related equipment

Performing welding, cutting, fabrication, and mechanical repairs

Reading electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, and repair documentation

Using diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and specialized railroad equipment

Testing completed repairs before locomotives are returned to service

Accurately documenting inspections, maintenance, and completed repairs

Following company, customer, railroad, and applicable FRA safety requirements

We're looking for candidates who already know the work and can bring proven locomotive maintenance skills to our Mulberry operation.

Previous hands-on locomotive repair and maintenance experience is required.

Candidates should have:

Direct experience inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing locomotives

Strong knowledge of diesel locomotive mechanical systems

Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities

Experience with air, brake, diesel engine, and related locomotive systems

Welding and fabrication experience

Ability to interpret schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation

Experience using mechanical tools and diagnostic equipment

Ability to troubleshoot problems and complete repairs with limited supervision

Strong understanding of railroad and industrial safety practices

Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Ability to travel periodically after relocating to Florida

Willingness and ability to relocate to the Mulberry, Florida area

Candidates without previous hands-on locomotive repair experience will not meet the minimum experience requirements for this position.

Your Home Base Will Be Mulberry, Florida

This is an important part of the opportunity: we are looking for someone who wants to relocate and make Mulberry, FL their primary work location.

After relocating, you will primarily report to and work at our Mulberry locomotive maintenance operation. Some travel will be required to assist other locations, projects, or customers as business needs arise, but this is not a 100% travel position.

Work is performed in an active railroad and industrial environment. You should be comfortable working outdoors in Florida weather and around locomotives, railroad tracks, heavy equipment, noise, grease, dirt, and moving machinery.

The position requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and handling the tools, parts, and equipment necessary to perform locomotive maintenance and repairs.

Pay & Benefits

Pay: $35.00–$40.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
