About this role

R.J. Corman Switching Company is currently seeking a Track Supervisor to join our team in Westlake, LA. 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, plan, and perform track maintenance work (install ties, change rail, etc.).
  • Perform weekly track inspections to ensure safe train operations.
  • Monitor work practices and safety-related issues to improve quality and performance.
  • Work with customers, both internally and externally.
  • Plan and provide future track improvements for the location.
  • Manage employees, equipment, and materials.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, Education and Experience:

 

  • Three or more years of track maintenance experience preferred.
  • Must have experience in Maintenance of Way standards.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Familiar with and able to apply safety and operating procedures.
  • Independent starter and self-motivated with good communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to perform physically strenuous work.
  • Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires occasional use of a 30 lb. claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs. of force.
  • Requires occasional use of a 10 lb. sledgehammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs. of force.
  • Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails, and ballast in a safe manner.
  • Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, stand, walk on uneven surfaces, manually manipulate, grasp, reach, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push/pull.

Environmental Conditions: 

  • Work is performed outdoors in varying environmental and weather conditions.
  • Requires extended periods of strenuous physical activity under field conditions.
  • Works on and around railroad tracks, equipment, and uneven terrain.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces.
