About this role
R.J. Corman Railroad Group is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join our accounting team in Nicholasville, KY.
Responsibilities:
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for assigned business units and legal entities.
- Prepare and review reconciliations, journal entries, financial schedules, and workpapers that support accurate reporting.
- Analyze financial results, investigate variances, identify trends, and share practical recommendations with management.
- Serve as a trusted accounting partner to operational leaders by supporting profitability analysis, capital investment decisions, and business initiatives.
- Monitor balance sheet activity and help ensure compliance with internal controls, U.S. GAAP, and company policies.
- Learn the operational drivers, contract structures, and key metrics that influence business performance.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, internal controls, and system utilization.
- Support audits, compliance reviews, accounting research, special projects, acquisitions, integrations, and other strategic initiatives.
- Performs Financial Reporting functions for an organization with multiple legal entities operating in different lines of business.
- Position interfaces with and supports all levels of management and personnel across companies.
- Responsibilities are performed with moderate degree of independence under general supervision.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- CPA license required.
- At least 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and month-end close.
- Ability to analyze financial information, solve problems, manage details, and communicate clearly with financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Public accounting experience.
- Experience with ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting tools.
- Experience interpreting U.S. GAAP, maintaining internal controls, or partnering with operational leaders on financial analysis.
Physical Requirements:
- This role is based on-site at R.J. Corman’s headquarters in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
- Duties are performed in a professional office environment and require regular in-person collaboration with Accounting, Operations, and Corporate teams.
- Physical requirements are limited to standard office work, including keyboard use and occasionally lifting office materials up to 20 pounds.
Environmental Conditions: Performs duties in an indoor administrative office environment.
