About this role

R. J. Corman Railroad Services is currently seeking a Grapple Truck Operator in Nicholasville, KY.

Responsibilities:

  • Transport, operate, and service heavy equipment used in railroad derailment recovery.
  • Safely operate grapple trucks and other CDL-A vehicles/equipment.
  • Handle heavy steel chains, blocks, cables, and other recovery materials.
  • Perform equipment maintenance, cleaning, and setup.
  • Use hand and power tools, including cutting torches and welding equipment.
  • Perform manual labor such as digging and hammering.
  • Follow DOT regulations and permit requirements.
  • Maintain safe work practices and proper PPE usage.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience: 

  • Valid CDL-A license with no restrictions and manual endorsement required.
  • Valid DOT Medical Card required.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and safe vehicle operation.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment such as grapple trucks, sidebooms, track loaders, excavators, and vac trucks.
  • Experience with or ability to learn welding, cutting torch operations, and equipment maintenance.
  • Must pass a background check, drug screen, and physical capacity test.
  • On-the-job training provided.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Lift up to 100 pounds maximum.
  • Frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including digging and material handling.
  • Comfortable working at heights over 25 feet on railroad cars and bridges.
  • Ability to work over or in water.

Environmental Requirements: 

 

  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Work in railroad recovery and construction environments.
  • Exposure to elevated work areas, bridges, and water-related worksites.
  • Must enjoy and be comfortable working outdoors for extended periods.
