JOB SUMMARY

Riis Settlement seeks an experienced, bilingual Computer Instructor to teach a basic computer skills course in English and Spanish, targeted at adult English language learners with limited computer skills. This class will meet for 3 hours per week at 9:30 am -12:30 pm on Monday mornings in three 10-week cycles beginning in October, January, and April. The Instructor will teach basic computer skills including understanding parts of the computer, typing, using the Internet and e-mail, Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and social networking. Successful candidates will have experience teaching using technology and creating a student-centered learning environment.

This position is available from October 2026 - June 2027, with the possibility of renewal in the following program year.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Provide computer instruction in English and Spanish for adult students with limited computer skills.

Develop and implement a 10-week curriculum that helps students develop basic computer skills, including understanding parts of the computer, typing, using the Internet and e-mail, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, social networking, and other relevant topics.

Design and administer student needs and progress assessments, and adapt lesson plans to meet student learning needs.
Ensure that lessons are level appropriate, interactive, and address various learning styles.
Create a welcoming classroom environment that is culturally responsive and fosters engagement and retention.

Complete administrative requirements for the class including submitting student registration forms, attendance, and assessments.

Participate in program meetings and staff development activities.

QualificationsSTATEMENT OF SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Bilingual English/Spanish and Bachelor's degree required
Minimum 1 year of experience teaching computer or digital literacy skills to adult learners
Ability to create original lesson plans and modify/adapt existing lesson plans and curricula to fit program needs.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and video-conferencing tools (e.g. Zoom). Ability to use digital platforms to instruct, communicate, and record program data.
Ability to integrate multimedia and interactive materials into lessons to enhance student learning. Adaptability to learn new educational technologies and integrate them into instructional practices.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to interact with students from a variety of backgrounds.
Professional conduct that facilitates the building of a respectful, trusting, and collaborative relationship with students and program staff.
