About this role
ABOUT THE ROLE
HiveRx is a production pharmacy operations platform built for regulated compounding environments. It is actively used, actively growing, and actively being extended. This role sits at the center of that.
You will own the operational health of the live product — triaging, diagnosing, and resolving issues that surface from real users in real workflows. You will also be the person who gets ahead of what comes next: researching requirements, talking to stakeholders, and producing the detailed specifications that external engineering teams need to build larger features correctly the first time.
This is not a pure engineering role, but it is not a pure product role. It requires both, and it requires someone who is comfortable moving between them.
Job Activities and Responsibilities: The responsibilities listed below are subject to change.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Product Engineering
- Own first-line triage and resolution of bugs and issues reported by active users
- Diagnose issues across the Laravel backend and Vue.js frontend; write clean, targeted fixes without introducing scope creep or architectural drift
- Document root causes and resolutions to build institutional knowledge
- Identify when an isolated issue is actually a systemic problem and escalate accordingly
- Use AI-assisted tooling to accelerate diagnosis, research, and code review — while maintaining the judgment to validate output before it touches a production system that operates in a regulated environment
Feature Specification & Research
- Translate business needs and regulatory requirements into detailed, unambiguous feature specifications for external engineering consultants
- Research to inform feature design: workflows, compliance constraints, vendor APIs, integration patterns
- Work directly with internal stakeholders to extract and validate requirements
- Write specs that are complete enough to be handed off without a follow-up meeting — the bar is: can a consultant build it correctly without asking clarifying questions?
- Maintain and organize the product specification library
Product & Platform Ownership
- Participate in release planning, QA review, and internal testing
- Contribute to technical, user-facing, and compliance-relevant documentation
- Support internal teams with platform questions and workflow guidance
- Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and risks proactively — this role is expected to have opinions and voice them
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Technical
- Solid command of PHP and Laravel — you can read, debug, and write production code in a real codebase
- Comfortable with Vue 3, Inertia.js, and Tailwind CSS
- Familiar with Vite-based frontend tooling
- Able to work within an established architecture without needing to rebuild it
Domain
- Experience working in or building software for regulated industries, preferably healthcare
- Understanding of compliance considerations that affect software design: audit trails, data integrity, access control,
- change documentation
- Familiarity with pharmacy, compounding, dispensing, or adjacent workflows is a meaningful plus
AI & Tooling
- Comfortable using AI tools (coding assistants, language models) as a productivity layer, not a replacement for understanding
- Able to critically evaluate AI-generated code and documentation — especially in contexts where correctness, auditability, and compliance are non-negotiable
- Understands where AI output requires extra scrutiny: edge cases, regulatory logic, data handling, integration boundaries
Writing & Communication
- Strong technical writer — your specs require minimal clarification
- Able to communicate clearly with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders
- Detail-oriented without being slow; you know when a spec is done
Mindset
- Ownership mentality — you treat open issues and unclear requirements as your problem until they are resolved
- Comfortable with ambiguity; able to impose structure on it
- Not looking for a role with clean lines — this role has overlap by design and requires someone who can context-switch without losing quality
WHERE YOU'RE JOINING
HiveRx is an established platform with real users, real workflows, and real stakes — but we're still early. There's a substantial roadmap ahead, and the person in this role will have direct influence on how it gets built.
This isn't a position where you're inheriting a finished product and maintaining the status quo. The foundation is solid, the domain is complex, and the work ahead is genuinely interesting. You'll be shaping how features get defined, how quality gets maintained, and how an engineering team that spans internal staff and external consultants stays coordinated and moving forward.
One expectation worth naming: this role requires genuine technical understanding. AI tooling is welcome here as a productivity layer, but you need to own your output. In a regulated environment, "the AI wrote it" is not a sufficient answer.
