Forward Deployed Engineer
About this role
We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer with 3–6 years of experience to sit at the intersection of deep engineering and customer impact — owning the technical deployment of Reducto's document AI platform with some of the world's most sophisticated enterprise customers. This is a founding FDE role at a 47-person, Series B company backed by a16z, Benchmark, and First Round Capital that's processing tens of millions of pages a month and growing revenue 8x YoY — you'll help shape what this function looks like from the ground up.
What will you be doing?
Partner with AEs and SEs during pre-sales to run rigorous evals, build custom demo applications, and win competitive bake-offs against rival document AI solutions.
Own post-sales technical success for 1–3 enterprise accounts — meeting weekly or bi-weekly with customers to unblock issues, deepen adoption, and unlock expansion into new use cases and teams.
Build whatever is needed to drive customer value: eval harnesses, prototype apps, diagnostic dashboards, or custom integrations on top of Reducto's APIs.
Embed directly with enterprise engineering teams to deploy new Reducto applications for customers who lack their own dev resources.
Feed insights from the field back to the product and engineering teams to influence core product direction.
Key Requirements
Strong Python proficiency — you must be able to write and ship production-quality code independently, not just configure tools.
AI/LLM fluency — deeply familiar with LLM/ML concepts and actively uses AI coding tools (e.g. Claude, Codex); candidates who only use Copilot without deeper understanding are a red flag.
Experience at a recognizable, high-growth startup shipping software in production with enterprise customers — pure Big Tech backgrounds without startup exposure are a poor fit.
Comfortable on customer calls — doesn't need to drive every conversation, but must be able to hold their own in a technical discussion without being an embarrassment.
No job hopping — two or more short stints (under 1 year) within a 2–3 year window is a dealbreaker; Reducto wants people in it for the long haul.
Company at a glance
Reducto offers an API-style platform that converts complex documents into inputs for large language models, serving hundreds of customers from startups to Fortune 10 and processing tens of millions of pages monthly from its San Francisco headquarters.
