General Manager, Australia & New Zealand - Recordati Rare Diseases

Overall Purpose

Lead and grow the Australia & New Zealand rare disease business, delivering sustainable commercial performance while expanding patient access to innovative therapies. The General Manager is accountable for P&L, strategy execution, market access, government affairs, compliance, culture, talent development, and external stakeholder engagement across ANZ.  


Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute the ANZ growth strategy and long-range plan.
  • Drive portfolio prioritisation, lifecycle management, and launch preparedness.
  • Build organizational capabilities required for future growth.
  • Translate regional and global priorities into an executable local strategy.  

2. Financial & Business Management

  • Full ownership of ANZ P&L.
  • Deliver revenue, EBITDA objectives. Ensure cash flow sustainability.
  • Lead annual budget, forecast and long-range planning cycles.
  • Build investment cases for new launches to accelerate growth. Prioritise investments and resources to maximize patient impact and business outcomes.  

3. Market Access & Government Affairs

  • Personally lead high-priority reimbursement and funding initiatives (PBAC, MSAC).
  • Manage relationships with Federal and State governments, Department of Health, PBAC, MSAC and policymakers.
  • Shape the rare disease policy environment and advocate for improved patient access to care and treatments.

4. Leadership of Cross-Functional Team

  • Lead a lean executive team spanning Commercial, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, PV/QA, Finance, Supply Chain.
  • Coach and develop functional leaders.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on integrity, accountability, collaboration and innovation.  

5. External Stakeholder Leadership

  • Represent Recordati Rare Diseases with:
    • Key opinion leaders
    • Patient organisations
    • Medicines Australia
    • Government agencies
    • Academic institutions
    • Wholesalers and distributor
  • Build trusted partnerships to improve outcomes for patients with rare diseases.  

6. Compliance & Corporate Governance

  • Ensure compliance with Medicines Australia Code, TGA requirements, pharmacovigilance, quality systems and corporate governance requirements. Ensure adherence to all mandated PBAC/MSAC data collection requirements.
  • Act as company director and legal representative where required.  

7. Organizational Development

  • Continue the transformation of the ANZ affiliate.
  • Build organizational capability, talent pipelines and succession plans.
  • Foster a patient-centric and innovation-focused culture.  

Experience

Essential

  • 15+ years pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • 5+ years senior leadership experience.
  • Previous responsibility for significant P&L.
  • Experience working across Commercial, Market Access, Medical or Strategy functions.
  • Government affairs exposure.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams.  
  • Hands on leadership, being willing to help when needed.
  • Launch and business development experience.  
  • Strong Australian reimbursement knowledge (PBS, PBAC, MSAC).

Highly Desirable

  • Rare disease experience.
  • Global functional experience (Marketing, Market Access or Medical)
  • Specialty care, oncology, haematology and/or endocrinology experience.
  • Experience leading organizational transformation and culture change.
