What We're Looking For

Michael Baker International is seeking an IT Support Specialist I to join our Corporate IT team in Salt Lake City, UT. In this role, you will provide front-line technical support to employees and clients — resolving hardware, software, and system issues through a structured ticketing environment while partnering with cross-functional technology teams to deliver reliable, end-to-end IT service. This is a hybrid work schedule with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the office.

No sponsorship is provided for this role; all candidates must be eligible to work for any employer in the United States without restrictions indefinitely.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver on-site and remote technical support to employees and clients, ensuring timely and effective resolution of hardware, software, and printing issues
  • Maintain complete lifecycle ownership of support tickets — from intake through resolution — utilizing strong communication skills to keep end users informed at every stage
  • Execute computer builds and personalization using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), ensuring standardized imaging and software deployment across the organization
  • Resolve Microsoft application issues including Windows OS and Microsoft 365 / Office Suite, applying systematic troubleshooting methodology to diagnose and fix root causes efficiently
  • Administer Active Directory user accounts and directory services to support employee onboarding, offboarding, and access management requests
  • Coordinate with Infrastructure, Server, VoIP, and Network teams to escalate and resolve complex incidents that exceed Tier 1 or Tier 2 resolution capacity
  • Partner with hardware vendors to facilitate equipment replacement and repair, ensuring minimal disruption to end-user productivity
  • Strengthen organizational IT reliability by proactively identifying recurring issues and contributing to knowledge base documentation and process improvement efforts

What You Need to Succeed

  • Two-year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; applicable experience accepted in lieu of degree
  • 0–3 years of IT help desk, desktop support, or related technical support experience
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting Microsoft applications including Windows OS and Microsoft 365 / Office Suite
  • Hands-on Active Directory experience including user account management, password resets, and basic directory administration
  • Experience using a ticketing system (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy, or equivalent) to log, prioritize, and resolve end-user support requests
  • Ability to build, configure, and troubleshoot end-user hardware including laptops and desktop computers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical issues into clear, user-friendly explanations
  • Ability to manage multiple open tickets concurrently and adapt priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or Intune for computer imaging and software deployment
  • VoIP system troubleshooting or support experience
  • CompTIA A+ or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate certification
  • Experience coordinating with hardware vendors for equipment RMA or replacement
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure, Server, or Network team collaboration for Tier 2/3 escalations

Compensation

The approximate compensation range for this position is $27.84 to $34.00 per hour. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
