What We're Looking For:
Michael Baker International is seeking a Bridge Inspection Lead to join our growing Baltimore Bridge team. In this role, you will lead bridge inspections and load rating projects, support bridge design efforts, manage projects and clients, and mentor junior engineers.
You will work closely with the local Bridge Practice Leader to support business growth, maintain strong client relationships, and deliver high-quality bridge engineering services throughout Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced bridge professional who enjoys both technical work and leadership responsibilities while helping grow one of Michael Baker International's key bridge practices. The position will be based in the office with the Baltimore team.
What You'll Do:
- Lead bridge inspections and load rating projects for transportation clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Perform bridge evaluations, structural analysis, and rehabilitation assessments.
- Support bridge preservation, bridge design, and rehabilitation projects.
- Manage bridge inspection contracts, task orders, schedules, budgets, and project deliverables.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants.
- Serve as a client contact and help maintain strong client relationships.
- Mentor and supervise engineers and inspection staff.
- Review reports, calculations, estimates, and project documentation.
- Assist with proposals, expressions of interest, and project pursuits.
- Support the growth of the Baltimore Bridge Practice through business development efforts.
- Conduct field inspections and site visits to document existing bridge conditions.
- Provide construction support and engineering recommendations.
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
- 7+ years of bridge inspection and design experience.
- Extensive bridge inspection experience with MDOT SHA, MDTA, MTA, VDOT, or PennDOT is a plus.
- Professional Engineer license in Maryland required; PE licenses in Washington D.C., and Virginia are a plus.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers and clients at all levels.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and project management skills.
- NHI two-week bridge inspection certification is required.
- NHI Bridge Inspection for Nonredundant Steel Tension Members certification is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
- Experience with road and/or rail bridge rehabilitation design and bridge load rating analysis is desired
- Experience with additional Mid-Atlantic transportation or infrastructure agencies is also preferred.
- Experience managing projects with multiple teams and subconsultants, including oversight of execution, financial performance, and quality assurance across concurrent projects, is desired.
Compensation:
The approximate compensation range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
