About this role
Ravenscroft School is seeking a reliable, responsible, and conscientious Bus Driver to provide safe transportation for students on daily routes, athletic contests, field trips, and other school-sponsored events. This is a part-time, 10-month position (following the academic calendar) averaging roughly 10-15 hours/week.
This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in safe driving, enjoys working with young people, and wants to be a positive, dependable presence within the Ravenscroft community.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
What You'll Do
- Drive assigned morning and afternoon/evening bus routes safely and on schedule
- Serve as a special-event driver for field trips, athletic contests, and extracurricular activities
- Fuel buses as needed
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive atmosphere for students while in transit
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, coaches, and staff
- Build positive relationships with students, staff, volunteers, and parents
- Report any safety concerns or maintenance issues to your supervisor promptly
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections in accordance with NCDOT regulations

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Clean driving record, as the safety of our students is the highest priority
- Desire and ability to work well with children
- Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, coaches, and school staff
- Working knowledge of rules and guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (buses), including compliance with NCDOT regulations
Preferred:
- Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements.
- Current DOT medical card
- Experience driving for K–12 or independent school transportation programs
- Experience serving as an athletics or field-trip event driver
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This role involves operating a school bus in varying weather and traffic conditions on a schedule that includes morning and afternoon/evening routes, with occasional additional hours for field trips and athletic events. The position requires the ability to sit for extended periods while driving, enter and exit the vehicle safely, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed (e.g., fueling equipment, student gear for field trips).
