$290K Starting Compensation | Lead Clinical Excellence Across a Growing Behavioral Healthcare Organization

Pyramid Healthcare is seeking an experienced Medical Director and Licensed Psychiatrist to provide clinical and medical leadership across our behavioral health and substance use treatment programs in North Carolina and Virginia.

This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed psychiatrist who is an MD or DO and wants to combine clinical expertise with executive leadership while making a meaningful impact across a growing behavioral healthcare organization.

The Medical Director will provide oversight of medical and psychiatric services, support and guide provider teams, strengthen quality and clinical outcomes, ensure regulatory excellence, and partner with executive and operational leadership to advance patient care.

What You'll Do

As Medical Director, you will provide clinical leadership and oversight across assigned Pyramid Healthcare programs, including:

  • Provide medical and psychiatric leadership across behavioral health and substance use treatment programs
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, evidence-based psychiatric and medical care
  • Provide clinical oversight and guidance to physicians, psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other medical providers
  • Partner with executive leadership on clinical strategy, program development, and organizational growth
  • Establish, review, and improve medical and psychiatric policies, procedures, and clinical standards
  • Support integration of psychiatric, medical, nursing, and behavioral health services
  • Lead and support quality improvement, clinical performance, and patient safety initiatives
  • Promote excellence in clinical documentation and regulatory compliance
  • Assist with psychiatrist and APP recruitment, credentialing, onboarding, and provider development
  • Provide consultation and clinical guidance for complex psychiatric and substance use cases
  • Collaborate with facility and program leadership to improve patient outcomes and care delivery

Psychiatry & Behavioral Health Leadership

Responsibilities may include:

  • Provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, and medication management
  • Provide clinical oversight and consultation for Assertive Community Treatment (ACTT) programs
  • Supervise and support psychiatric APP providers
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and clinical meetings
  • Provide consultation for complex psychiatric, behavioral health, and substance use cases
  • Collaborate with behavioral health and clinical leadership to support integrated treatment
  • Serve as a medical liaison with external agencies, referral partners, and payors

Qualifications

Required

  • MD or DO required
  • Licensed Psychiatrist required
  • Active, unrestricted medical license required
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain medical licensure in North Carolina and/or Virginia
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

Preferred

  • Previous leadership experience in behavioral health, psychiatry, addiction medicine, or substance use treatment
  • Experience providing oversight to physicians and/or advanced practice providers
  • Experience in multi-site or multi-program healthcare leadership
  • Experience with community behavioral health, residential treatment, inpatient care, or ACTT programs
  • Experience treating individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Strong understanding of clinical quality, compliance, and regulatory standards

Location & Travel

The ideal candidate will reside in North Carolina, Virginia, or a nearby area with reasonable access to Pyramid Healthcare programs.

Regional travel is required to provide leadership, clinical support, and collaboration across assigned facilities.

This is an executive physician leadership position for a psychiatrist who is comfortable balancing clinical excellence, provider leadership, strategic planning, and operational collaboration.
