About this role
What we're looking for
We are seeking a Back End Engineer with a product-oriented mindset to join our API team. You should have experience building public-facing APIs, ideally with GraphQL, and a proven ability to model complex business domains into simple code. You are comfortable working closely with customers and subject matter experts to translate their needs into a delightful user experience.
What you'll do
Define the semantics of a mortgage in code, working on models that don't just represent the present but expand what's possible in the future.
Design, build, and maintain our core GraphQL API, treating it as a product that our customers depend on.
Help build out our event-driven architecture, moving our API to a world where it proactively communicates what happened, why, and what to do next.
Create thoughtful abstractions and clear documentation to make the complex mortgage process impossible for developers to get wrong.
Work closely with subject matter experts and customers to incorporate feedback and iterate on API designs.
Own the full lifecycle of the API, including versioning, breaking changes, and developer onboarding.
What happens next
Skip the application pile. I get you in front of the people who decide.

I pitch you to the company

When the company wants to meet, I get the call on your calendar. You just show up.
Culture & values
The company emphasizes deep technology investments and first-principles thinking rather than following past approaches.
Working at Pylon is presented as a research-like experience where you ship to intelligent, opinionated customers regularly.
The team leans heavily on each other and collaboration is essential when tackling difficult tasks.
The company aims to optimize for quality and speed without requiring performative long hours.
Ownership is encouraged: if you find something broken, you are likely the best person to fix it in a small team.
Employees are encouraged to push their own ideas into action more than at large companies.
The company seeks generalists who are smart, flexible, and enjoy digging into all areas rather than specialists.
Operating in a regulated mortgage space, the company moves fast but cannot break things due to federal and state regulations.
Know someone who'd be great for this?
