JOB OVERVIEW
Provide services and support as an Engineering Functional Area Mechanical Engineer [Construction Discipline Engineer (CDE) – Mechanical (Field Engineer)] (CO102) under Labor Category: Construction Discipline Engineer at Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina. Mechanical Engineer [Construction Discipline Engineer (CDE) – Mechanical (Field Engineer)] - Engineering (CO102). Work collaboratively as part of the ProSidian Engagement Team as Exempt personnel. Dedicated Planned Labor Hours (DPLH) of Straight Time (ST) Estimated Annual Quantity (Hrs. Per Yr.) | Overtime Time (OT) Estimated Annual Quantity (Hrs. Per Yr.). This is a Labor Hour Subcontract or Contract W-2 (IRS-1099) position, and ProSidian reserves the right to convert to a Full-Time ProSidian employed W-2 Position. The role(s) are located at Savannah River Site / Aiken, South Carolina with identified Work Site Address (121 Richland Ave E, Aiken, SC 29801, USA), providing Engineering functions working to provide BOA Support Services for multiple department-requirement Service Areas (SA) for Savannah River Remediation LLC (The SRMC/LW Contractor) at the U.S. Department of Energy | Savannah River Site (DOE-SRS) in Aiken, SC to support the evolving needs of the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES - Mechanical Engineer [Construction Discipline Engineer (CDE) – Mechanical (Field Engineer)] - Engineering (CO102)
- Plan and provide technical oversight of mechanical field-construction activities involving procurement, fabrication, installation, modification, and maintenance of systems and components.
- Coordinate with design agencies to support timely issuance of new designs and design changes; conduct field walkdowns with design engineers; review design outputs and vendor documents for constructability; verify field conditions against design output; verify procedure and code compliance; submit constructability comments; track comments through resolution; and support project-team design-review meetings.
- Resolve design and installation problems encountered in the field and coordinate solutions with design engineers and affected support organizations.
- Inspect and verify materials, equipment, installed commodities, and construction workmanship for compliance with drawings, specifications, procedures, applicable codes, and standards; coordinate with Quality Control to ensure installations satisfy requirements.
- Develop and expedite bills of materials and field material takeoffs; track material-delivery status; coordinate field delivery; verify received materials against orders; expedite or order additional materials; coordinate material testing; and coordinate/status shop fabrication supporting field execution.
- Perform walkdowns with craft supervision and support groups; develop installation sequences, detailed work instructions, and computer-based work execution plans/work packages; generate inspection and test records or coordinate their preparation with Quality Control.
- Identify layout and survey requirements and generate the corresponding requests.
- Develop job-specific hazard analyses for field execution and support or lead team hazard-analysis review meetings.
- Generate or support job-specific permits and controls, including lockout/tagout orders, power-services utilization permits, hot-work permits, asbestos-disturbance permits, confined-space permits, radiological permits, excavation permits, and hazardous-waste permits, as applicable.
- Attend or chair work execution plan review meetings; establish routing lists for hazard-analysis and work-plan approvals; coordinate and expedite approval routing; disposition review comments; assemble the approved work execution plan; and provide status updates in the SRS work-control passport system.
- Lead pre-job briefings with craft workers; perform task-ready walkdowns with craft supervision; verify installed quantities; provide and coordinate daily field support; perform field inspections; and identify, coordinate, and resolve field-installation issues.
- Participate in system and component turnover activities and support startup and functional checkout.
- Complete closeout by generating design completion notices, confirming work-plan status accuracy, closing all permits, and closing work execution plan documentation.
Qualifications
Desired Qualifications For Mechanical Engineer [Construction Discipline Engineer (CDE) – Mechanical (Field Engineer)] - Engineering (CO102) (CO102) Candidates:
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Any personal vehicle operated by the candidate must have valid registration and proof of insurance maintained in the vehicle.
- Working knowledge of discipline-specific construction codes and standards.
- Previous experience generating computer-based construction work execution plans/work packages, preferably in Asset Suite or an equivalent work-control system.
- Previous experience generating job-specific hazard analyses, including use of Assisted Hazard Analysis or an equivalent method.
- Previous experience performing field material takeoffs and supporting procurement.
- Ability to climb and spend extended periods in active field environments.
- Ability to obtain qualification for work in radiological work areas.
Education / Experience Requirements / Qualifications
- Candidates must satisfy one of the following combinations for the applicable engineering discipline:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or another specified engineering discipline, plus at least 5 years of practical construction field-engineering experience in that discipline; OR
- Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering or another specified engineering discipline, plus 5–10 years of practical construction-engineering experience in that discipline; OR
- High school diploma, plus 10 or more years of practical construction-engineering experience in that discipline.
- Specified disciplines may include Mechanical, Piping, Electrical, Civil, or Instrumentation and Controls, as determined by the requestor. This posting is specifically oriented to the Mechanical discipline.

Other Details
Position Title: Construction Discipline Engineer (Field Engineer) – Mechanical:
- Work schedule: A 40-hour workweek is scheduled. SRR Construction generally uses a four-day schedule of 10 hours per day, normally Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Alternate schedules may be used. The workweek excludes SRR holidays.
- Primary interfaces: Design agencies/design engineers, project teams, craft supervision and craft workers, Quality Control, survey/layout personnel, procurement/material organizations, fabrication shops, startup/turnover personnel, and safety/work-control support groups.
- Work authorization/security conditions: U.S. citizenship and the ability to qualify for radiological work areas are mandatory.
