Overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel may be required based on project needs

Overview

This is a hands-on field role supporting the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical substation equipment used in power transmission, distribution, and generation systems. You will work with experienced technicians to build and maintain critical infrastructure while operating specialized tools, equipment, and vehicles. What you will do

Substation construction and installation

  • Assist with construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical substation equipment
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications
  • Install power cables, conduit, grounding systems, cable trays, and control wiring
  • Assist with transformer assembly, circuit breaker installation, and protective relay panel installation
  • Perform conductor fabrication, grounding, steel erection, and bus installation
  • Support transformer oil processing and vacuum filling activities

Equipment operation

  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and specialized construction equipment
  • Work with bucket trucks, line trucks, digger derricks, excavators, trenchers, cranes, cable pullers, and hydraulic crimpers
  • Use testing and diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and electrical issues
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in clean, organized, and service-ready condition

Maintenance and customer support

  • Participate in preventative maintenance outages and field service projects
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems at customer facilities
  • Support emergency response and on-call activities as needed
  • Provide professional service when working with customers, vendors, and team members

Safety and compliance

  • Follow OSHA, NFPA 70E, DOT, and company safety standards
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings and training programs
  • Maintain safe work practices while working around energized electrical equipment
  • Complete required documentation, reports, and compliance records accurately and on time

May be modified from time to time. Other duties, tasks, and work may be assigned.

What we are looking for

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum three years of electrical substation construction experience preferred
  • Completion of a Substation or Lineman Apprenticeship Program is a plus
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documents
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment
  • Understanding of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and industry safety requirements
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Willingness to obtain company-sponsored certifications and training including TWIC, OSHA, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR

Physical requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and equipment
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
  • Ability to work at elevated heights and in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods
  • Must be able to travel and stay overnight for multi-day projects as required

Work environment

  • Work is performed primarily at customer facilities and electrical substations
  • Work may be performed near energized equipment while following established safety procedures
  • Overnight travel and emergency response work may be required
  • Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of the assigned regional office
