About this role

Overview

You'll own both execution and long-term vision — building what an AI-native communications function looks like inside an infrastructure company, and shipping the work yourself. You'll create marketing, sales, print, and digital assets that help Powertown launch new markets, support customers, and grow awareness, while defining the workflows, tools, and where human craft stays non-negotiable as the team grows.

We intend to become a real creative studio that tells stories about the histories and traditions of the places and people we work with, at scale. You'll direct and generate work that feels personal and specific, distinct from the AI "slop" flooding every feed. You'll join a small team with a high bar for craft and a lot left to build.

What you'll do

  • Own and expand our existing narrative and creative direction

  • Define what an AI-native creative team looks like at Powertown — tools, workflows, and where human craft is non-negotiable

  • Design clean, production-ready files (one pagers, social, external materials) and adapt campaigns across formats, channels, and markets while maintaining quality

  • Research and translate the history and traditions of the places, communities, and utility partners we work with into brand storytelling

  • Build and maintain design systems, templates, and asset libraries built for speed and scale

  • Continuously improve workflows, including evaluating and integrating AI tools into file production

Who you are — a doer

  • 2–6 years of professional communications experience, with a portfolio showing strong layout, typography, and the ability to work within established brand guidelines

  • Expert in Figma; strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)

  • Preferred: motion graphics, video editing, or light animation; web or landing page design experience

  • Exceptional organization and file management

  • Able to take direction, work independently, and execute with minimal oversight

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Who you are — a visionary

AI has ruined effort but made effort so much more valuable.

  • Taste sharp enough to tell "personalized" from "generic" at a glance, and the judgment to know what deserves hand-crafted attention vs. bulk production

  • A genuine interest in place and history — the instinct to find what makes a community or company's story distinct, and make work that doesn't feel templated

  • Experience building something from scratch: a team, a system, or a creative function that didn’t exist before you got there

  • Enough executional range and credibility to earn trust from a small, high-craft team while setting direction for where it's headed
