Core Role Scope

As a Payroll Specialist on Phil Long Dealerships’ Centralized Payroll Team (onsite in Colorado Springs, CO 80905), you provide senior-level ownership of accurate, timely pay for a multi-location operation—protecting compliance, trust, and operational continuity.

Key responsibilities:
- Prepare, process, and validate payroll each cycle; verify entries and maintain payroll records
- Enter and update employee data in the payroll system with strict confidentiality
- Perform basic reconciliations/audits and resolve variances to drive outcomes
- Respond to pay-related questions from employees with clear, professional communication

Required qualifications/skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3–5 years related experience (or 2 years plus specialized training/certification)
- Strong Excel proficiency and detail-focused data accuracy
- Sound problem-solving judgment and effective written/verbal communication

Your day centers on a steady payroll rhythm: you review pay-cycle inputs, confirm completeness before deadlines, and keep records audit-ready. You’ll spend focused time in Excel and the payroll system ensuring figures tie out, then pivot to service—answering employee questions with discretion and documenting outcomes for consistency. Midday often includes quick check-ins with your manager and the broader centralized team to align on timing, exceptions, and follow-ups. As the cycle closes, you validate final outputs, note trends that could prevent repeat issues, and maintain privacy standards throughout—supporting a high-performance environment built on accuracy and integrity.
