Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and patient-focused Patient Enrollment Specialist – Clinical Support to join our remote healthcare team.
This 1099 independent contractor position combines patient enrollment and outreach with Medical Assistant-related clinical support responsibilities. The role focuses on engaging patients by phone, supporting enrollment and appointment scheduling, coordinating follow-up activities, and maintaining accurate clinical and administrative documentation.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working with Medicare-aged patients in a structured, high-volume environment and balancing patient-centered communication with productivity, quality, and documentation expectations.
This is a fully remote position and requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently within established workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Outreach & Enrollment
- Conduct outbound and inbound patient calls as part of scheduled outreach activities
- Engage patients regarding Annual Wellness Visits and care management services
- Support patient enrollment and appointment scheduling
- Schedule, confirm, and coordinate patient appointments
- Follow up with patients to complete enrollment and scheduling activities
- Provide clear and professional information regarding available healthcare services
- Address routine patient questions and concerns appropriately
- Maintain established outreach, enrollment, and productivity expectations
Clinical Support
- Perform medication reconciliation and document patient-reported information
- Obtain and update medical histories, allergies, and preventive care information
- Collect and document patient-reported vital signs when applicable
- Identify relevant patient information for provider review
- Assist with chart preparation and clinical documentation
- Support care coordination and patient follow-up activities
- Escalate clinical concerns to the appropriate clinical team when necessary
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately document patient interactions, enrollment activity, scheduling, and clinical information in the EHR
- Maintain complete, timely, and accurate patient records
- Follow established outreach, enrollment, clinical support, and documentation workflows
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect confidential patient information
- Follow company policies, procedures, and applicable healthcare requirements
- Maintain consistent documentation quality while meeting productivity expectations
Performance Expectations
This position is suited for candidates who are comfortable working in a high-volume, structured, and performance-driven healthcare environment.
The role may involve:
- Managing approximately 50–80 patient calls per shift
- Completing patient outreach, enrollment, scheduling, and follow-up activities
- Documenting patient interactions accurately and promptly
- Working toward established call volume, enrollment, quality, and productivity goals
- Communicating effectively with Medicare-aged patients
- Managing voicemail-heavy outreach and unanswered calls
- Handling patient questions or objections professionally and appropriately
Required Qualifications
- Medical Assistant certification
- Previous experience in a healthcare, medical office, telehealth, patient care, or care coordination setting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Professional and confident telephone presence
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Reliable attendance and ability to maintain assigned full-time work hours
- Comfortable working within structured workflows and performance expectations
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with patient enrollment or healthcare outreach
- High-volume patient calling or call center experience
- Experience working with Medicare populations
- Experience supporting Annual Wellness Visits or preventive care programs
- Care management or care coordination experience
- Familiarity with Epic, NextGen, or comparable EHR platforms
- Previous remote healthcare experience
