Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Apprentice
Full-Time | Permanent | Blumenort, MB + Remote Project Sites
Penn-co Construction is looking for experienced mechanic to join our Service Department. Whether you're a registered Heavy Duty Equipment Technician apprentice or you've built your skills through years of hands-on experience, this could be an opportunity to take the next step in your career.
We're looking for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, isn't afraid to get their hands dirty, and wants to continue developing their skills while working on a diverse fleet of heavy construction equipment.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, service, and repair a broad inventory of heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, rock trucks, cranes, skid steers, telehandlers, and forklifts.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on highway trucks and trailers, including brake systems, suspension, powertrains, and emissions systems.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance with a strong focus on hydraulic systems, as well as mechanical and electrical components.
- Perform welding and fabrication repairs as required.
- Troubleshoot issues and provide efficient on-site solutions to minimize downtime and support field operations.
- Coordinate repair schedules with the Service Department Supervisor and site leadership; maintain strong communication with both.
- Maintain accurate service records, time sheets, parts usage logs, and parts requests.
- Work independently in both remote field environments and a fully equipped shop.
Qualifications
- A registered Heavy Duty Equipment Technician apprentice at any level;
- An experienced mechanic who has developed your skills through hands-on work but has not completed formal trade schooling;
- Someone with experience maintaining and repairing construction, agricultural, transportation, or other heavy equipment;
- Mechanically inclined with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities;
- Comfortable working with hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems;
- Interested in learning and continuing to develop your trade skills;
- Able to work independently as your experience and competency allow;
- Reliable, organized, and willing to take initiative;
- Comfortable working both in a shop and in remote field environments;
- Willing to travel to project locations as required.
- A valid Class 5 driver's licence is required. A Class 1 or Class 3 licence with air brake endorsement is an asset.
Working Conditions:
- Regular shop hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Position includes a combination of shop and field work.
- Travel to project sites, including remote and northern locations, is required.
- Field assignments may involve longer shifts depending on project requirements.
- Work may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, dust, and snow.
- Must be physically capable of performing the requirements of the position, including lifting, climbing, bending, kneeling, and working on or around heavy equipment.
