Summary
Stumptown is dedicated to creating an exceptional experience for our wholesale partners and for our own cafes through effective and accessible education, direct engagement, and industry connectivity. The Educator is responsible for ensuring that the quality of our coffees is represented to the highest standard wherever they are served and to build and maintain the identity of our brand. This position will work closely and collaboratively with the broader Wholesale and Customer Support Teams to develop content and fulfill the business and sales goals. The Educator also works in tandem with our Retail cafes and broader company to provide ongoing coffee education for all Stumptown employees. By delivering a high level of hospitality, fostering long lasting relationships with customers, and forming a key understanding for their ongoing needs, the Educator is critical to our overall success, and to the success of our wholesale partners and our own Retail cafes.
Responsibilities
Education
Deliver unparalleled coffee education and tailored support to wholesale partners, to our retail cafes, and to the broader Stumptown team.
Build and maintain an expertise of Stumptown coffees and our quality standards.
Host professional, Stumptown-designed barista classes in person and virtually while maintaining the department’s quality standards, as well as modify and adapt content as needed to fit the needs of our customers.
Partner with the Director of Education and the other Educators to brainstorm, design, and execute extracurricular workshops for our cafe teams and for top customers.
Lead and participate in ongoing coffee tastings for our partners, Stumptown community, and sales assistance as needed.
Create and maintain the class schedule and online scheduling platform for In Person and Virtual sessions in the Training Lab and for off-site trainings.
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and functionality of the Stumptown training lab.
Customer Experience
Collaborate with the regional sales team in day to day customer needs, development and execution of customer initiatives, programming, and barista engagement.
Participate in strategic visits to wholesale customers and retail cafes focused on quality assurance, best practices, onboarding, and relationship management in coordination with customer-specific objectives.
Utilize CRM platform to document and track customer interactions and important information.
Audit customers to provide feedback and support on quality standards and practices.
Industry Engagement
Develop, attend, and carry out brand, community and industry engagement opportunities with the broader team such as Festivals, events, and more as a representative of Stumptown.
Stay informed of and serve as the conduit to industry trends, new products, and equipment.
Other Essential Functions
Maintain an efficient, effective, and prioritized work schedule through regular team communication.
Act as the regional department representative and main point of contact.
Coordinate with the Director of Education to manage travel and customer experience budget.
Perform other job-related duties and cross-functional initiatives as assigned in support of evolving business priorities.

Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of specialty coffee industry experience; previous education/training experience strongly preferred.
Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for coffee.
Excellent barista skills, including both coffee preparation and hospitality.
Knowledge of coffee origins, processing methods, and roasting approaches.
Confident and effective communicator in a variety of settings.
Able to represent Stumptown in a professional manner to a variety of audiences.
Eager to learn and ask questions and able to work independently while still part of a team.
Excellent time management skills.
Flexibility in scheduling; holiday, evenings and weekends are sometimes required.
Willingness to travel and maximize the value of trips.
Confidence and fluency with computer and mobile devices.
Proficiency with virtual meeting software, including Zoom and Google Meet.
Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
Physical Demands
Carry weight, lift – frequently moves materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Taste/Smell – ability to detect and perceive smell and taste of coffee.
Standing – ability to stand for long periods.
Talk/hear – frequently communicates with clients and employees.
Perform repetitive motion with the hands, wrists and forearms to operate espresso machinery.
Work Environment
Work is performed in the Training Lab, Stumptown Retail Cafes, wholesale customer locations, and virtually.
The work environment can be noisy.
Temperatures can be variable in the work area.
Pay Transparency & Benefits:
The target base compensation for this position can range from $62,000 and $67,000, plus bonus potential.
