Overview

The Configuration Specialist handles the building and implementation of new and existing client systems using Paychex's software platform. Configuration Specialists are measured against their ability to meet high quality standards for timeliness and accuracy. The Configuration Specialist will identify quality issues or data discrepancies during client setup and communicate these concerns to the appropriate partner. Individuals in this role work closely with the account's stakeholders to meet organizational commitments to each client's specific needs and adhering to implementation timeline.


Responsibilities

    • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Paychex’s products, features and usage 

    • Responsible for the configuration of client database within Paychex, Inc systems to meet all business requirements using supporting documentation 

    • Verify all necessary information and details have been obtained/extracted from the client via documentation or reporting, partnering with clients and internal stakeholders as needed to ensure data is fully accurate 

    • Ensure all data is recorded, balanced and reconciled to the clients’ reports 

    • Engage directly with clients to clarify setup requirements, confirm expectations, and ensure configuration aligns with documented business needs. 

    • Maintain documentation of discrepancies, errors, changes, and communications that occurred during configuration, and collaborate with necessary stakeholders to identify appropriate resolution 

    • Explain configuration findings, data concerns, or setup impacts to clients in a clear and professional manner, coordinating with internal partners to support resolution. 

    • Troubleshoot issues or concerns with configuration setup, communicating results as required 

    • May support client-facing communication during assigned setup activities by providing updates on timelines, outstanding items, next steps, and overall progress as needed. 

    • Communicate clearly with stakeholders on status of setup/project, adhering to timelines and communicating progress 

    • Manage configuration from initialization to finalization, effectively communicating timelines and executing on the project on behalf of the customer. 

    • Provide flexible support across functional teams to support spikes in high volume as needed 

    • Active member within the team, supporting those who have questions, and asking questions when necessary; provide subject matter expertise to internal partners as needed 


Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required; four-year degree or equivalent education/experience preferred 

  • 2+ years’ experience in a customer-facing position; prior implementation, project management, or SaaS industry experience required. 

  • Prior Benefits experience preferred 

  • Intermediate MS office skills required 

  • Excel proficiency and intermediate AI skills preferred 

  • Technical aptitude: ability to adapt to frequent system and tool updates 

  • Demonstrated proficiency in data manipulation 

  • Sharp attention to detail and data entry skills 

  • Possess strong organization and time management skills, must be able to prioritize tasks based on delivery dates, other milestones and perform well under deadline pressures 

  • Ability to effectively solve problems by balancing detailed questions with creative solutions. 

  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter, manage high-volume workloads, and prioritize effectively to meet tight timelines. 

  • High level of personal accountability and team engagement 

  • Ability to interface with multiple departments and work both independently and in a team environment 

  • Requires business English proficiency equivalent to a level B2 CEFR or higher
