About the Role

YouthBuild Columbus Community School, part of Oakmont Education, is looking for a mission-driven Instructional Aide to work alongside our teachers to support the academic success of our students. Under the supervision of the School Director and the direction of a classroom teacher, the Instructional Aide helps deliver instruction and support for the regular and special needs of students in the classroom, ensuring every student has what they need to succeed.

Requirements

   What You'll Do

  • Work side by side with the classroom teacher, serving as a positive role model and providing emotional support and general guidance to students.
  • Help create a caring, supportive, and stimulating classroom environment that's conducive to learning.
  • Assist in classroom management and help the teacher prepare instructional materials.
  • Implement instructional programs and lesson plans, under the teacher's supervision, to support students' academic success.
  • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning concepts and help students reach their academic goals.
  • Use computers and other technology to support student learning.
  • Help maintain an orderly, motivational school culture and assist with classroom administrative records and reports.
  • Maintain good order and discipline among students while safeguarding their health and safety.

What You'll Need

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
  • This role does not require Ohio Department of Education (ODE) teaching licensure. 
  • Holding a substitute license, or being actively on the path toward licensure, is a bonus but not required.
  • 1–2 years of experience working with students preferred.
  • A passion for improving educational opportunities for urban students.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology.
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to support students in achieving their academic goals.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment and may involve working with challenging students at times. It requires some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, along with significant fine finger dexterity. Reasonable accommodations can be made for employees with qualified disabilities.
