NOVA Engineering & Environmental is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our CMT & Special Inspections team in Norcross, Georgia. This position is ideal for an experienced inspector with expertise in structural steel fabrication, welding inspections, and special inspections for commercial, industrial, institutional, and infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will perform field inspections and quality assurance services to verify compliance with project specifications, applicable building codes, AWS standards, and industry requirements. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects while collaborating with engineers, contractors, fabricators, and project managers throughout the Southeast.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform structural steel and welding inspections in accordance with AWS, ICC, project specifications, and applicable building codes.
- Conduct inspections of welded and bolted structural steel connections.
- Observe shop and field fabrication activities to ensure compliance with approved construction documents.
- Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, material certifications, and inspection reports.
- Document inspection findings and prepare detailed field reports utilizing electronic reporting systems.
- Communicate inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions with contractors, fabricators, and project stakeholders.
- Perform visual inspections of structural steel framing, welds, and related construction activities.
- Coordinate with NOVA engineers, project managers, and clients to support quality assurance objectives.
- Maintain certification requirements and stay current with applicable codes, standards, and inspection methodologies.
- Adhere to NOVA’s safety policies and procedures while performing field assignments.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; engineering, construction management, or related technical education preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience performing structural steel, welding, or special inspections.
- Must possess one or more of the following certifications:
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or
- ICC Structural Welding Special Inspector, or
- ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code and applicable IBC special inspection requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and access active construction sites.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ICC Master of Special Inspection (MSI).
- Additional ICC Special Inspector certifications such as Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, or Soils.
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification.
- NDT certifications (UT, MT, PT, or VT).
- Experience with structural steel fabrication shop inspections.
- Experience utilizing digital inspection and reporting software.
