THE ROLE:



NextGen America is currently seeking an experienced, detail-oriented communications professional to join our team as National Press Secretary. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, the National Press Secretary will manage media strategy, maintain strong reporter relationships, prepare teammates for on-the-record conversations, and work across departments to build and execute a robust communications program nationally and across our targeted states.

This role drives our earned media narrative, crafting talking points, pitching press, media prepping internal leadership and team members, drafting Substack content, and finding creative strategies to uplift student voices and NextGen programming. The ideal candidate has deep on-the-record political experience, a passion for empowering young people, and a belief that Gen Z will transform elections, shape culture, and build new systems.



This is a fully remote position with no location requirement. We encourage candidates from all locations within the United States to apply.

WHAT YOU’LL ACHIEVE:

  • Draft talking points, press releases, statements, op-eds, LTEs, and core messaging materials under tight deadlines.
  • Develop and execute proactive pitching strategies to secure high-impact media coverage across print, TV, radio, and online outlets, with a focus on national political reporters.
  • Serve as an official on-the-record spokesperson for NextGen America on national narrative.
  • Prepare, media prep, and staff NextGen leadership, internal team members, and student organizers for interviews, media appearances, and press events.
  • Author and manage NextGen’s Substack, leveraging long-form storytelling to highlight proprietary insights, youth vote narrative, organizational priorities, and movement updates.
  • Brainstorm and execute creative communications strategies to uplift student voices, campus organizers, and NextGen programming across earned and owned media channels.
  • Monitor daily news, media trends, and Gen Z cultural moments to identify rapid-response opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with digital and organizing teams to ensure messaging alignment across all campaigns.
  • Support the management and mentorship of student organizers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



ABOUT YOU:

  • A minimum of 3–5 years of communications experience in political campaigns, advocacy groups, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Exceptional writing, messaging, and storytelling skills, with demonstrated ability to draft compelling talking points, press materials, and newsletter/Substack content quickly.
  • Proven experience preparing and media prepping surrogates or leadership for press interviews.
  • Strong media relations skills and existing connections with national political reporters and media outlets.
  • Passion for youth organizing, Gen Z media trends, and uplifting student/NextGen voices.
  • The ability to adapt rapidly to evolving political priorities, tight deadlines, and rapid-response situations.
  • Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to travel (10–20%) and work flexible hours during key political moments.



SALARY INFORMATION:
The starting salary range for this position is $90,000 - $95,000. The final base salary will be determined by various factors, including individual qualifications and internal parity, which will be objectively assessed during the interview process.
