About this role

The Role:

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Tax Accounting, to be based in Mexico City, Mexico. This role will lead NFE’s Mexico tax accounting function, helping to ensure accurate and timely U.S. GAAP (ASC 740) income tax provision reporting and strong SOX-compliant internal controls, while partnering closely with NFE’s tax and accounting teams in Mexico and the U.S.

We are entrepreneurial, fast- moving, and motivated by a desire to change the way that energy and electricity are delivered around the world. We are looking for a motivated, highly experienced individual with shared beliefs and passion to come and help drive the journey.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the quarterly and annual U.S. GAAP income tax provision (ASC 740) process for NFE’s Mexico operations, including current and deferred tax calculations, effective tax rate analysis, and valuation allowance assessments.
  • Maintain and strengthen tax-related SOX internal controls and supporting documentation for the Mexico tax reporting process.
  • Partner with the global tax provision and financial reporting teams in the U.S. to ensure consistent application of ASC 740 methodology and timely consolidation of local tax data.
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of Mexican statutory financial statements and tax returns, ensuring alignment between local reporting and U.S. GAAP tax reporting.
  • Serve as the primary technical bridge between Mexican local GAAP and U.S. GAAP tax reporting, resolving book-to-tax and statutory-to-U.S. GAAP differences in partnership with MX Controllership.
  • Proactively identify and escalate emerging tax positions, risks, and timing issues to the Tax Director in MX and U.S. Corporate Tax department well ahead of quarter- and year-end deadlines.
  • Coordinate across MX Controllership, MX Tax, and U.S. Corporate Tax/Reporting on the integrated close and tax calendar, tracking cross-functional dependencies and deadlines.

Qualifications

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tax or Accounting; CPA, Contador Público Certificado, or equivalent professional certification preferred.
  • 8-15 years of progressive tax accounting and financial reporting experience, with significant hands-on U.S. GAAP income tax accounting experience gained in a multinational or SEC-registrant environment; Mexican tax reporting and compliance experience is also required Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP income tax accounting (ASC 740), including provision preparation, deferred tax analysis, and effective tax rate reconciliation.
  • Deep knowledge of Mexican tax law and compliance requirements, including ISR, IVA, and other statutory filing obligations.
  • Experience working within a multinational corporate structure and supporting U.S. parent company reporting requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and tax automation/workflow tools, with the ability to leverage these systems to streamline the provision process and improve reporting efficiency.
  • Familiarity with SOX internal controls and public company reporting requirements.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate clearly with both local and U.S.-based teams.
  • Experience with tax compliance and provision software (e.g., OneSource) preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across jurisdictions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with counterparties, auditors, and tax authorities.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships across Mexico and U.S. teams, including regular, structured communication with New York-based Corporate Tax, Controllership, and Reporting.
  • A demonstrated track record of raising issues, open items, and technical risks early and directly — well ahead of filing or reporting deadlines — rather than at the point of escalation.
  • Strong team orientation and collaborative communication style; able to work constructively within a cross-functional team
  • Impeccable integrity and a strong personal work ethic.
