About this role

The Manager, Finance will manage and oversee the organization’s day-to-day financial operations, which  include reporting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting and audit, ensuring that financial resources are  accounted for accurately, managed responsibly, and are adequately safeguarded.  Working closely with the CFO, the Manager will support the execution and implementation of tactical and  strategic plans aimed at achieving Neighbours Community Homes’ (Neighbours) goals.   The Manager, Finance, will directly supervise the Senior Accountant, the two Financial Analysts, and the  Account Payables and Receivable Clerk.  This role will provide guidance and mentorship to these direct  reports, ensuring the team is adequately trained, motivated and aligned to achieving Neighbours’ goals and  objectives.  ▪ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. A CPA designation is preferred. 
▪ Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
▪ Strong understanding of GAAP, non-profit accounting practices, budgeting and financial reporting  standards.
▪ Experience in not-for-profit accounting, particularly with low-income housing, community development, or  social services organizations, is preferred.
▪ Knowledge of government funding regulations and experience with managing restricted funds, grants,  and government funding is an asset.
▪ High attention to detail and accuracy with a strong ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic  insights.
▪ Proven ability to work with a variety of stakeholders, including external auditors, donors, government  agencies, and program managers.
▪ Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present financial information to  non-financial stakeholders.
▪ Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset, and the  ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
▪ Familiarity with Yardi - accounting software or similar program preferred; proficiency in MS Excel is  required. OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITES
  
Financial Reporting & Analysis  
▪ Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow  reports, and variance analysis.
▪ Lead monthly financial reviews with business unit owners, explaining financial variances and working with  business unit leads to develop a forecast of spend.
▪ Develop and maintain financial reporting systems/processes that meet the needs of both internal  stakeholders (management, program directors) and external stakeholders (funders, auditors, board  members).
▪ Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and key performance indicators, highlighting potential  risks and areas for improvement as well as providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
▪ Ensure proper accounting of all revenue streams, including grants, donations, government funding, and  rental income.  Budgeting and Forecasting.
▪ Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to create realistic and effective  budgets that align with the organization’s goals and objectives.
▪ Monitor monthly and quarterly performance against the budget, identifying and addressing any  discrepancies or financial challenges.
▪ Working with various managers within the organization, develop and provide financial forecasting and  projections to ensure the organization can maintain a healthy cash flow and meet its operational needs.

Grant & Fund Management  
▪ Monitor the allocation and utilization of restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring that resources are used  in accordance with funder guidelines and organizational priorities.
▪ Prepare and/or oversee the timely preparation of detailed financial reports for government agencies, private  foundations, and other funding sources, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
▪ Work closely with program staff to ensure that financial reporting for grants is accurate, timely, and aligned  with funding agreements.
▪ Develop, implement and continuously strive to improve internal controls and systems to track grant fund  usage and ensure proper documentation. 

Audit & Compliance 
▪ Ensure the organization’s financial operations comply with relevant regulations, accounting standards (e.g.,  GAAP or PSAB), and internal policies.
▪ Prepare for and coordinate annual audits, working with external auditors to ensure that the organization’s  financial statements are accurate and compliant.
▪ Address any audit findings or financial discrepancies, implementing corrective actions to improve financial  controls and processes.
▪ Stay up-to-date with changes in non-profit financial regulations and advise leadership on how to adapt to  any new legal or compliance requirements.

Internal Controls and Financial Systems
▪ Develop, implement, and continually improve internal financial controls and procedures to safeguard the  organization’s assets and resources.
▪ Review and recommend improvements to financial systems, ensuring that they are efficient, accurate, and  secure.
▪ Work closely with IT or external vendors to ensure that financial software is appropriately integrated with  the organization’s needs. 

Team Leadership & Mentorship  
▪ Supervise and mentor finance staff. Provide coaching, feedback, and opportunities for professional  development.
▪ Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, ensuring that all finance team members have the  support and resources they need to succeed.
▪ Ensure that the finance team has appropriate training on financial systems, reporting requirements, and  best practices. 

Special Projects & Other Duties
▪ Lead or participate in special projects related to financial systems, process improvements, and  organizational initiatives.
▪ Support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in strategic financial planning, business forecasting, and long term sustainability initiatives.
▪ Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO to support the organization’s goals. 

General Finance and Accounting
▪ Backup other members of the team.
▪ Prepare ad-hoc analysis and reports as necessary.
▪ Prepare year end papers and work with auditors.
▪ Perform other duties as assigned.

▪ Comply with the policies of Neighbours including those pertaining to the confidentiality of client information.
▪ Represent the agency in a positive manner with clients, colleagues and the community at large.
▪ Participate in internal committees as assigned.
▪ Keep the Manager informed and updated on relevant issues.
▪ Attend regular supervision meetings with the Chief Financial Officer for the purpose of reviewing work  expectations and performance evaluation. 

WORKING CONDITIONS
▪ Usually work in an office setting and in a team environment.   
▪ Works 35 hours per week. Hours vary depending on the organizational needs. Overtime work is common  at budgeting time, month end, during fiscal year end and annual audit. 
▪ May be required to travel to and work from other Neighbours locations. 

As a condition of employment, a successful police record check for Vulnerable Sector is required. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in the country where this role is located.
