Position Description & Job Summary

Community Programs Instructor, Part-Time

The Greensboro Science Center is looking for creative, energetic individuals who can share their science enthusiasm to teach hands-on, minds-on science classes for children ages 3 through 12 in general sciences. Instructors are responsible for developing and presenting science-related, age-appropriate activities based on class descriptions and outlines.

Minimum requirements: Enrollment in a college degree program focused on education (or a related field), or completion of a four-year degree, ideally in education or science. Prior experience working in an instructional capacity (classroom or informal) is preferred. The successful applicant will have a demonstrated passion and aptitude for teaching, have a strong interest in science, be adept at creating imaginative science learning opportunities, and enjoy working closely with children. Candidates should also be well-organized and have a positive, outgoing demeanor. The hourly rate is $15.25/hour.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Develop creative and engaging class lessons and activities.
Maintain excellent communication with and work with GSC staff members and volunteers.
Positively interact with children and adults of all ages and abilities in a variety of settings.
Maintain a safe and organized working and learning environment.
Maintain education program supplies and materials.
Dress appropriately for the day's activities and adhere to the GSC dress code.
Respond to emergency situations in a safe and appropriate manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Greensboro Science Center.

Position Criteria

Ideal candidates will have experience in developing and delivering informal science education programming.
Possess a valid driver's license and pass a background check.
Required to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods of time.
Be able to climb stairs, lift, carry, and move up to 20 pounds.
Safely and comfortably navigate uneven surfaces including gravel, grass, hills, and stairs.
Ability to work outdoors for various lengths of time under a variety of conditions, including hot temperatures and high humidity.

Schedule

Hours for this position vary greatly based on schedules, interest, and classes that are contracted. We are currently prioritizing candidates with Tuesday availability, though additional program hours are available.
