Position Overview

NAIS is seeking an experienced Business Application Subject Matter Expert to support the sustainment and continued development of federal occupational and environmental health information systems.

The Business Application SME will connect mission operations with software-development and technical teams. The successful candidate will provide functional expertise in one or more of the following areas:

• Industrial hygiene and occupational or environmental health
• Bioenvironmental engineering
• Occupational audiology and hearing-conservation programs
• Clinical audiometric data management
• Military health and medical-readiness operations

This position is designated as Key Personnel. Employment is contingent upon contract award, customer approval, and successful completion of applicable security, suitability, and onboarding requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a functional authority for occupational and environmental health business processes.
• Translate mission workflows and user needs into clear application requirements, business rules, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Advise application developers, systems analysts, database personnel, testers, and program leadership on functional requirements.
• Support the sustainment and advancement of applications used to collect, process, manage, analyze, and report occupational and environmental health information.
• Evaluate proposed system changes for mission relevance, usability, data integrity, and operational impact.
• Support requirements analysis, backlog refinement, design reviews, demonstrations, testing, training, and production-readiness activities.
• Assist with functional validation, defect analysis, issue resolution, and user-acceptance activities.
• Support data collection and analysis involving biological, chemical, radiological, physical, and other occupational or environmental health hazards.
• Advise technical teams on military occupational and environmental health practices, terminology, data, and reporting needs.
• Collaborate with government stakeholders, military health professionals, software teams, and other mission partners.
• Support the development and maintenance of functional documentation, workflows, procedures, training materials, and user guidance.
• Identify functional risks, data-quality concerns, and operational dependencies and recommend practical mitigation measures.

Required Qualifications

• Senior-level experience in occupational and environmental health, industrial hygiene, bioenvironmental engineering, occupational audiology, hearing conservation, medical readiness, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated ability to translate mission or clinical requirements into software functionality and technical requirements.
• Experience collaborating with information technology, software-development, data, testing, or systems-support teams.
• Knowledge of occupational and environmental health business processes and data.
• Strong requirements-analysis, problem-solving, documentation, and stakeholder-engagement capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with mission users, clinicians, engineers, analysts, and senior government representatives.
• Ability to satisfy applicable federal suitability, security-clearance, system-access, and onboarding requirements.

Preferred Experience

• Occupational or environmental health experience within the Department of Defense or a military service.
• Professional experience as an Industrial Hygienist, Occupational and Environmental Health professional, or Bioenvironmental Engineer.
• Experience supporting occupational and environmental health applications within a federal or defense software-development environment.
• Experience with military exposure information, health-hazard data, deployed and garrison operations, or medical-readiness processes.
• Experience developing user stories, functional requirements, business rules, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
• Experience supporting Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid software-development programs.
• Experience conducting functional testing, user-acceptance testing, demonstrations, or training.
• Experience with occupational audiology, hearing-conservation programs, or comparable clinical activities.
• Field experience using a hearing-conservation application or an equivalent clinical audiometric data-management system.
• Ten or more years of senior-level experience as an Allied Health Professional, Clinical Specialist, Medical Assistant, or Medical Technician for candidates supporting the hearing-conservation specialty.
• Experience with diagnostic equipment, audiometers, medical-device integration, or clinical data-capture interfaces.

Work Environment

The place of performance is associated with Falls Church, Virginia. The final onsite, remote, or hybrid work arrangement will be determined by contract and customer requirements.

The position may require collaboration with geographically distributed government, military, clinical, and technical stakeholders. Occasional travel may be required based on final program needs.
