Job Summary
Under close supervision, the Dental Assistant assists Dentists in the performance of dental procedures on patients.
Essential Functions
Appropriately hands dental instruments to dentist during treatment of patients
Arranges operating area with all necessary supplies and equipment
Knowledge of what is needed for proceduresMaintains inventory list of supplies and instruments
Uses logsCompletes X-rays ordered by dentist
Maintains sanitary conditions of all operatory and clean and soiled areas
Keep clinic very cleanEnsures appropriate sterility and quality control are maintained in autoclaving and preparing sterile solutions
Maintains logs, checks reports, changes solutions regularlyMaintains equipment in clean working order and retains copies of preventive maintenance and quality control
Maintains equipment and informs when repairs neededNeat, clean, proper attire, professional uniform as per policy.
Present clean and neat work appearanceTreat all co-workers with respect and work with them in a spirit of cooperation.
Cooperates in working with other employeesAssist with orientation/procedures for new dental associates.
Support and nurture new /current coworker.Retracts patients mouth and operates suction equipment to maintain mouth free of secretions.
Qualifications
High School/ GED Required
1-3 years experience in a dental setting Required
Experience in customer service and multi-tasking strongly Preferred
Dental x-ray equipment; mixing unit for amalgam; autoclave; ; all dental equipment; computer system and terminal including Epic, EMR, SAP, Word, and Excel; and telephone.
Knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
Must have ability to use data entry and retrieval systems.
Must have ability to use electronic communication and patient information systems.
If health center has a significant (more than 35%) English Language learner population e.g. Spanish then proficiency in that secondary language is preferred.
Must have ability to function independently in accordance with polices and procedures.
OHS Annual Assessment Required
