The Master Crater is responsible for safely preparing, packing, crating, and securing products for shipment. This role ensures all items are protected, labeled, documented, and loaded according to company standards, customer requirements, and applicable safety guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Measure, inspect, and evaluate products to determine the appropriate packing and crating method.
  • Build custom wood crates, pallets, skids, and protective packaging as needed.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, nail guns, saws, forklifts, and other warehouse equipment safely.
  • Wrap, brace, block, cushion, and secure products to prevent damage during transportation.
  • Verify shipment paperwork, labels, part numbers, quantities, and special handling requirements.
  • Load and unload materials while following safe lifting and material-handling practices.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area.
  • Monitor inventory of lumber, packing materials, fasteners, and other crating supplies; report shortages to management.
  • Inspect completed crates for quality, stability, and compliance before shipment.
  • Assist with warehouse operations, inventory, receiving, and other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all company safety policies, attendance expectations, and reporting procedures.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in crating, packaging, carpentry, warehouse operations, or shipping is preferred.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic measurements and calculations.
  • Experience safely operating hand and power tools.
  • Forklift experience or willingness to obtain forklift certification.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently while meeting production schedules.
  • Reliable attendance and a commitment to workplace safety.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds and, with assistance or equipment, heavier items as needed.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures, noise levels, and dust.

Reporting Relationship

The Master Crater reports to the Warehouse Manager or assigned Operations Manager.
