About this role

The Tool & Die Technician at Metalsa ensures the seamless operation and maintenance of tooling and die systems. Candidates must have substantial experience and a deep understanding of tooling processes to join #TeamMetalsa.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Repair, maintain, develop, and build dies.
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing of component and frame assembly drawings.
  • Address and correct quality concerns in tooling stage operations.
  • Implement customer changes (e.g., engineering changes).
  • Make tooling repairs due to bad hits, double hits, and bad setups.
  • Changeover tooling to produce different parts and spot tools for proper metal fits.
  • Use circle grid analysis to reduce material stretch and eliminate breakage.
  • Maintain tooling nitrogen systems, preventative maintenance schedules, and spare parts inventory.
  • Identify tool steels and perform necessary heat treatments.
  • Study and maintain die transfer systems, blank feeders, unloaders, and power feeds.
  • Understand hydraulic and pneumatic systems for proper locating and clamping.
  • Safely operate all powered hand tools and moving equipment (including forklifts and cranes).

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years as a journeyman tooling technician /tool & die, preferably in automotive.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of die stamping processes, welding tool steels for repairs, and proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Certifications: Lockout/Tagout training.
