Managing Funeral Director, Los Angeles

Meadow is building the modern funeral home. We’re looking for a California-licensed funeral director to be our designated Managing Licensed Funeral Director in California.

You’ll be our compliance expert, providing the supervision, control, and direction that helps us manage cases in accordance with California funeral law.

This is a contract role, retained for ten hours a month, with pay for extra hours. Because much of our operation is built to accommodate remote, it can fit around whatever else you do (though we do require residency in the Los Angeles metro area).

The work

• Ensure full compliance with California funeral, health, and disposition laws

  • Licenses, permits, and documentation kept current

  • Point of contact for state regulatory inquiries and inspections

• Case and standards oversight

  • Maintain authorizations, cremation and embalming documentation, with authority to pause a case or a practice you are not comfortable with

  • Signing or countersigning case documents

  • Preneed compliance

  • Available to support local operations and answer questions during business hours

• Operational guidance and support

  • Advising our team on procedure and case management

  • Support the setup and inspection of physical facilities.

You would not be doing removals or arranging with families, and there is no shift rotation. When a case needs your judgment or your signature, we come to you.

What we require

• Active California funeral director license in good standing

• Not currently acting as Managing Funeral Director for another facility

• Based in/close to the Los Angeles market

• Experience overseeing funeral operations

• Comfortable working in a modern, technology-enabled role. Must be comfortable using SaaS, video calls, and mobile chat applications for communication.

• Embalming experience is a plus.
