About this role
MDW Associates is seeking an Accountant to provide sound financial stewardship, and analysis to our National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) client at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL.
This role is located in Huntsville, AL and interested individuals must reside in the area or be immediately willing to relocate in order to support the customer with on-site meetings and other in-person requirements 5 days/week.
The Accountant may perform a combination of some or all of the following duties:
- Provide general accounting management support for funds control and distribution, payroll management, accounts receivables, funds balancing, cost management, property management, environment liabilities, procure to pay, grants execution and controls, reimbursable/non-reimbursable agreements, standard general ledger, appropriations integration, continuous monitoring program, and policy integration activities.
- Supporting the establishment of funds control over appropriated funds.
- Reviewing timecards on a bi-weekly basis for accuracy and making corrections of time and attendance data.
- Supporting processes related to other reimbursable and non-reimbursable agreements.
- Supporting Continuous Monitoring Program (CMP) reconciliations.
- Accounting and tracking of Space Act Agreements, International Agreements, General Services Administration (GSA) revenues, and other revenue receipts.
- Processing costs in NASA's accounting systems resulting in expenses and liabilities reflected in financial systems to include contract/account analysis and evaluation/resolution of issues.
- Supporting processes and procedures related to the accounting for and management of Government-held personal property, real property, operating materials and supplies, internal use of software and contractor-held property.
- Preparing Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Standards (SFFAS).
- Supporting the creation, approval, and review of purchase requests and the disbursement of those funds to vendors and contractors.
- Financial monitoring of grants execution and controls.
- Ensuring general ledger accounts reconcile with Treasury accounts.
- Ensuring financial and grants policy, compliance, and other reconciliations
- Monitoring of transactions/accounts.
- Performing records archiving and retrieval.
- Preparing, submitting, and presenting financial performance reports to inform management.
- Supporting special projects.
Required Experience/Skills:
- 6+ years of specialized experience in accounting or related field; a master's degree would account for 2 years of experience.
- Knowledgeable of accounting concepts such as journal entries, general ledgers, debits/credits, reversals, cost accounting, and property accounting.
- Must be able to assess products and procedures for compliance with Government accounting standards and principles.
Education Requirement(s):
- Candidates for this position must possess a BS/BA degree in accounting or a degree in a related field that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting.
Clearance Requirement(s)
- Public Trust - Candidates for this position must be submitted for a background investigation in order to satisfy government requirements.
