Role Purpose:

The Senior Environmental Engineer serves as the site environmental leader for the Glendale Plant and is responsible for all aspects of environmental compliance and management systems, sustainability strategy, and continuous improvement across the facility. This role provides technical expertise and regulatory leadership to ensure environmental requirements are effectively integrated into brewery operations while supporting long-term environmental performance.

Operating with a high degree of independence, the Senior Environmental Engineer develops and implements environmental programs, policies, and procedures; maintains permit compliance; prepares environmental reports; manages environmental records; supports regulatory inspections; and leads environmental improvement initiatives across the facility. The role serves as the primary point of contact for environmental compliance matters and works closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Utilities, Technical Services, Manufacturing Excellence, and EHSS stakeholders to build environmental ownership throughout the brewery.

The Senior Environmental Engineer is responsible for environmental programs including wastewater compliance, air compliance, waste management, refrigerant management, radiation safety, environmental reporting, and greenhouse gas data management. The role develops and executes site environmental and sustainability strategies aligned with corporate objectives, identifies opportunities to improve environmental performance and resource efficiency, and supports corporate sustainability reporting through the collection, validation, and reporting of facility environmental data.

 

 Accountabilities & Impact:

• Leadership & Ownership

  • Serve as the site Environmental Subject Matter Expert for permit compliance, environmental programs, technical requirements, and regulatory readiness.
  • Lead site environmental compliance efforts through the development of effective cross functional partnerships and shared ownership of environmental responsibilities across site departments.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve site environmental programs, policies, procedures, standards, and management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and environmental performance.

  Compliance & Regulatory Responsibilities

  • Ensure weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual permit conditions and compliance requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Identify, evaluate, and help prevent potential environmental compliance risks, permit deviations, and environmental incidents through proactive program management and corrective action implementation.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit environmental permits, regulatory reports, compliance records, and other required environmental documentation.
  • Serve as the primary site contact for environmental inspections, audits, agency communications, permit discussions, and regulatory reporting matters.

  Environmental Programs

  • Maintain accountability for hazardous material management, hazardous and non-hazardous waste programs, waste minimization initiatives, and related regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Lead and support spill prevention and response, refrigerant management, radiation safety, and other applicable environmental compliance programs.
  • Collect, validate, analyze, and report environmental and sustainability performance data, including greenhouse gas reporting metrics, and support corporate environmental reporting initiatives.

  Technical Environmental Engineering

  • Evaluate environmental impacts associated with process changes, capital projects, equipment installations, and operational modifications to ensure environmental requirements are incorporated into project planning and execution.
  • Support integration of environmental requirements with site safety, quality, and operational standards to promote regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

  Sustainability & Continuous Improvement (10-15%)

  • Drive environmental and sustainability continuous improvement initiatives that improve compliance, operational performance, and long-term site capability.
  • Influence overall brewery environmental and sustainability strategy development in partnership with EHSS and site leadership.
  • Develop and execute environmental objectives and improvement plans while managing environmental expenditure within approved budgets.

 

Skills & Experiences Needed:

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental, Chemical or Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, EHS, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent combinations of education and relevant environmental compliance experience may be considered.
• Eight (8) or more years of progressive environmental compliance experience with increasing responsibility for environmental programs, permitting, reporting, and regulatory compliance in a manufacturing, industrial, food and beverage, utilities, or regulated operating environment preferred.
• Experience independently managing environmental compliance programs and regulatory requirements with limited day-to-day supervision, including permitting, air compliance, wastewater compliance, hazardous material and waste management programs, spill prevention and response, environmental reporting, regulatory inspections, and agency interactions.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into executable site processes, controls, training, and follow-up actions.
• Experience partnering with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Utilities, Technical Services, Manufacturing Excellence, and EHSS teams to implement environmental programs, drive compliance, and support operational improvements preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or other relevant environmental certifications preferred.

• Team-oriented and comfortable engaging leaders and team members on the shop floor to reinforce environmental awareness, compliance ownership, and operational discipline.
• Able to use environmental data, reporting tools, and technology solutions to support compliance tracking, regulatory reporting, performance visibility, and continuous improvement.

 

Working conditions:

• The incumbent will be required to work inside as well as outside in all seasonal elements.
• Must be capable of considerable walking and may be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to ascend/descend stairs/ladders throughout shift.
• Ability to stand/move 8-12 hours per day.
• Sitting for long periods of time
• Must be medically certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus. Controlled exposure to chlorine, ammonia, sodium hydroxide, sodium hypochlorite, ferric chloride, sodium bicarbonate, phosphoric and sulfuric acids, bio-solids, raw wastewater, biocides and other chemicals will occur.
