Job Title: Nature Preschool Substitute Aide

Department: Recreation

Reports To: Environmental Education Program Manager

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Classification: Part-Time; Non-exempt

Job Level: 3

Work Environment: Classroom setting, Outdoor nature setting. Boettcher House Nature Center: 2369 Lititz Pike

 

Summary: This individual must be willing and able to fill in as an aide with short notice. The substitute will also be needed in the absence of one of the teaching staff.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Assist the permanent staff with implementing curriculum in a way that is consistent with the unique needs of each child.
  2. Create a safe, nurturing environment where children can play and learn both indoors and in nature.
  3. Support the program's success; partner with staff and leadership to achieve goals.
  4. Cultivate positive relationships with nature while meeting the educational and developmental needs of the students.

Physical Requirements

  1. Ability to talk, hear, and see.
  2. Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently.
  3. Ability to supervise students in multiple environments including in nature on trails, fields, and woodlands.

 

Minimum Age: 18

 

Competencies

  1. Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification
  2. Required legal background checks
  3. Willingness to engage with parents and communicate about their student's growth and success.
  4. Knowledge of English word usage, spelling, and punctuation.

 

 

Regularly Scheduled Hours

This is a substitute position with no regularly scheduled hours. This individual must be willing and able to fill in as an aide with short notice. The substitute will also be needed in the absence of one of the teaching staff.

 

Required Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D
  2. 1 year of experience working with children.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. 1 year of experience working with children in an educational setting.
  2. Graduate of an approved 4-year college or university with a PA Teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education.
