Summary: The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that support new product development, production requirements, cost competitiveness, inventory optimization, and supplier performance. This position works closely with Engineering, Planning, Operations, Quality, and Product Management to source materials, manage suppliers, support new product introductions, and ensure continuity of supply.
Key Responsibilities
Develop sourcing strategies for assigned commodities, materials, and product categories
Serve as sourcing lead for new product development projects
Identify, evaluate, qualify, and onboard new suppliers
Identify and execute cost reduction opportunities through supplier negotiations, value engineering, and sourcing initiatives
Monitor supplier performance including on-time delivery, quality, lead time, responsiveness, and cost competitiveness
Manage RFQs, quote analysis, supplier selection, and contract negotiations
Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, and supply agreements
Develop and maintain alternate sources to reduce supply risk
Monitor market conditions, supplier capacity, and material availability trends
Lead supplier business reviews and performance improvement initiatives
Support supplier risk assessments and mitigation plans
Manage supplier VMI programs to ensure optimal inventory levels and material availabilit
Conduct regular supplier reviews to evaluate VMI performance and compliance
QualificationsRequired education, experience & skills:
3-7 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management
Experience supporting manufacturing operations
Experience with supplier negotiations and RFQ processes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
Experience with ERP systems
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Finance, Operations, or related field.
Preferred education, experience & skills
Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI)
Experience managing Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs
Experience with inventory planning and forecasting
Experience with Epicor ERP
