We are looking for a Circulation Manager to join our team!

As part of the Marketing team, the Circulation Manager will lead and grow our print and digital circulation strategy for a large publication. The Circulation Manager will oversee print circulation operations, subscriber retention, revenue optimization, and churn reduction while driving data informed audience growth initiatives across multiple channels.



Key Responsibilities

  • Own and manage all aspects of print and digital circulation strategy for a large consumer-focused publication, with accountability for subscriber acquisition, retention, renewal performance, circulation growth, and audience engagement.
  • Develop and execute audience growth strategies that increase paid and qualified circulation, optimize subscriber lifetime value (LTV), reduce churn, and improve overall circulation profitability.
  • Utilize audience, subscription, and engagement data to make informed decisions that drive acquisition, retention, conversion, and revenue growth across multiple channels.
  • Plan and execute subscriber acquisition, renewal, win-back, and retention campaigns using segmentation, behavioral targeting, lifecycle marketing, and data-driven personalization strategies.
  • Build and optimize subscriber lifecycle programs from initial conversion through onboarding, engagement, renewal, gifts, reactivation, and long-term retention.
  • Develop test plans, trial offers, pricing strategies, promotional packages, and conversion optimization initiatives. Continuously measure performance and apply a disciplined test-and-learn approach to improve response rates, retention, and ROI.
  • Monitor and optimize key circulation and subscription metrics including subscriber growth, renewal rates, churn, engagement, customer acquisition cost (CAC), lifetime value (LTV), conversion rates, and subscription revenue.
  • Own subscription revenue performance and circulation economics, including forecasting acquisition and retention results, monitoring profitability, and identifying opportunities to improve yield and operational efficiency.
  • Develop annual circulation forecasts, budgets, reporting, and performance analysis. Present recommendations and results to senior leadership based on measurable business outcomes.
  • Oversee all print circulation operations including fulfillment, production schedules, print order management, subscriber services, shipping, postal optimization, and newsstand distribution.
  • Manage relationships with fulfillment houses, printers, direct mail agencies, newsstand consultants, digital marketing partners, distribution vendors, and other third-party suppliers to ensure operational excellence and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with circulation reporting requirements, privacy regulations, subscription policies, and postal regulations. Manage relationships with audit organizations and maintain the integrity of subscriber data.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and market research to identify audience trends, emerging technologies, subscription best practices, and growth opportunities that keep the publication ahead of the market.
  • Monitor email deliverability and optimize subscriber communications to improve inbox placement, open rates, click-through rates, engagement, retention, and conversion performance.
  • Develop and execute integrated audience development strategies that grow readership and drive traffic and engagement across print, digital, email, social media, events, newsletters, and advertiser-supported content programs.
  • Partner closely with editorial, sales, product, analytics, and marketing teams to align audience growth initiatives with broader business, content, and revenue goals.
  • Leverage advanced audience segmentation, cohort analysis, retention modeling, and performance reporting to identify opportunities for growth, improve subscriber experiences, and support strategic decision-making.
  • Continuously evaluate new channels, technologies, partnerships, and marketing opportunities to expand audience reach, improve subscription performance, and strengthen long-term customer relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related
    field; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in circulation management, audience development, or
    digital/print marketing, ideally within a media, publishing, B2B or B2C environment.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret audience data and translate insights
    into actionable strategies that drive measurable growth.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills; ability to manage multiple brands
    and campaigns simultaneously in a fast-paced, remote environment.
  • Experience in/knowledge of the scientific industry is an asset.

Experience & Skills:

  • Expert working knowledge of subscription fulfillment software (Omeda, CDS).
  • Experience with e-mail marketing platforms and list segmentation best practices.
  • Experience with web analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics) and data
    visualization tools to monitor audience KPIs and campaign performance.
  • Hands-on experience with social media management; familiarity with emerging platforms
    and growth tactics.
  • Direct experience both executing and managing paid advertising efforts.
  • Experience with A/B testing and conversion rate optimization; a disciplined, test-and-learn
    approach to campaign development capable of demonstrating clear ROI
  • Advanced knowledge of print fulfillment workflows, subscriber database management,
    subscription billing cycles, and postal regulations.

Compensation:

  • The expected salary range for this position is $85,000–$105,000 CAD per year, commensurate with
    experience. This range reflects benchmarked compensation for a Circulation Manager in the
    Canadian media and publishing sector. Benefits package includes health and dental coverage, paid
    vacation, and professional development support.
