About the Role:
The Kalmbach Feeds Operations team is seeking a detail-oriented and technically minded Packaging Specialist to support the performance, quality, and continuous improvement of our packaging operations. The Packaging Specialist will serve as a resource for packaging materials, processes, equipment, and specifications while partnering with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure products are packaged safely, efficiently, and consistently.
- You serve as a technical resource for packaging materials, equipment, processes, and packaging specifications
- You work closely with packaging suppliers to resolve quality issues, improve material performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- You troubleshoot packaging issues and partner with Production and Maintenance to identify root causes and implement effective solutions
- You investigate packaging quality issues and coordinate corrective actions with internal teams and packaging suppliers
- You support packaging trials, equipment changeovers, process improvements, and the implementation of new packaging materials and technologies
- You support new product launches, packaging changes, and capital projects involving packaging equipment and automation
- You evaluate packaging materials and processes for quality, performance, availability, and cost effectiveness
- You provide technical guidance and training to production team members when new packaging processes, materials, or equipment are introduced
- You are comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and spending time on the production floor
- You own and maintain packaging specifications for packaging materials, including dimensions, material construction, print requirements, performance standards, and supplier documentation
- You monitor packaging material performance and supplier quality metrics to ensure consistent operation, package integrity, and continuous improvement
- You support the qualification and implementation of new packaging materials, suppliers, and packaging technologies to improve quality, reliability, and cost effectiveness
Who You Are:
- High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Packaging, Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field preferred
- 1-3 years of packaging, manufacturing, quality, or continuous improvement experience preferred
- Working knowledge of packaging materials including, but not limited to, woven polypropylene (WPP) / BOPP laminated bags, multiwall paper bags, poly bags, stretch wrap, corrugate, and palletizing materials
- Familiarity with packaging specifications, artwork control, package testing, and change management processes
- Experience working with packaging suppliers to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives preferred
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding time management, organizational, and prioritization skills
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Windows-based software programs
- Possess high energy and the drive required to proactively execute responsibilities within a dynamic manufacturing environment
- Thrives in a fast-paced work environment
- Strong attention to detail with effective investigation and follow-up skills
