JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges.
JOB DUTIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An Engineering Technician IV provides support to the engineering and design staff by performing a variety of more complex or non-routine assignments during the installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, calibration, testing, fabrication, construction, and operation of diverse electronic/mechanical equipment and systems in accordance with engineering specifications.
Employee will be responsible for the following functions/duties:
- Install, monitor, and service equipment and systems at the company and the client sites
- Assist with the test and evaluation, check-out, and certification tasks
- Perform validations/verifications of various electronic systems
- Review engineering change proposals for equipment impacts
- Assist in accomplishing engineering change instructions
- Develop technical/engineering data for planned maintenance systems, technical manuals, troubleshooting procedures, drawing updates, operation procedures, and maintainability improvements
- Support systems engineering activities with subject matter expertise
- Establish and maintain a filing system, databases, and logs for tracking project status and inventory
- Assist in providing the on-site customer interface for equipment/system installation, testing, fabrication, and other engineering tasks
- Comply with engineering documentation standards, engineering plans, system specification, and test procedures
- Provide technical data and evaluation for components, equipment, and systems consistent with engineering plans, layout, and contract requirements
- Serve as a senior technician and assist in the training of other technicians
- Support engineers in the development of technical proposals and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work
- Use established policies and procedures and subject matter knowledge to complete assignments of moderate complexity that vary in nature and sequence
- Perform other job-related duties, as required
RANGE POSITION DESCRIPTION
The ideal candidate will have Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge of telemetry acquisition systems and Radio Frequency (RF) theory. Job duties include providing preventive and corrective maintenance, sustainment engineering, and real-time operations support for fixed and mobile telemetry tracking systems, digital data transmission systems, and network infrastructure under general technical guidance. Additionally, the successful candidate will act as an upper-level technician and will be required to teach and train Junior Technicians and Field Engineers in all aspects of Operations and Maintenance of our Telemetry Tracking Antenna Systems.
Real-time support duties involve establishing end-to-end connectivity for pre-mission checks of voice, video, and data links, as well as monitoring live missions for abnormalities and rapidly troubleshooting issues as they arise. The candidate will perform preventative maintenance on all equipment in accordance with established Local Work Cards, standard operating procedures, tech manuals, and other official documentation.
The candidate must be proficient in utilizing test equipment such as RF spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, telemetry receivers, and video distribution amplifiers. A solid understanding of Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) is required, along with practical knowledge of data transport equipment and transmission media. The candidate must be experienced in interpreting and redlining engineering drawings and utilizing schematics to install, alter, and repair equipment. Extensive experience terminating various types of fiber optics, low-loss RF, and copper-based cabling is essential.
The successful candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrating the ability to make critical decisions in high-pressure situations. To accommodate various mission support objectives, the candidate must be available to work overtime, varying shifts, and weekends, and must be available for periodic travel.
Job requirements dictate:
Strict adherence to Quality Assurance and Safety guidelines across all scopes of work, as well as meeting all ancillary training requirements. The applicant must be able to achieve certification in communications Tower Climbing/Rescue, Forklift operations, and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs), perform work at elevated locations, and successfully meet all Section Master Task List milestones within set timelines.
In addition, the applicant will possess or be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance within 180 days of hire with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 products. Experience with the Maximo database for purchase requisitions, tool control, maintenance, and logistics tracking. Prior experience in tower climbing and operating elevated work platforms (boom and scissor lifts). Experience in project/property management and team leadership. Certifications in CompTIA Security+, Electronics, Networking, and Linux Red Hat 8 are a plus. Active Commercial Driver's License (CDL) desired.
REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Vocational/technical training beyond high school from an academic institution, or military equivalent training and a minimum of seven (7) years of job-related experience are required for this position.
In addition, an Engineering Technician IV must possess the following qualifications:
- Working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs
- Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software
- Excellent communication and analytical skills
- Planning/organizational skills
- Ability to work under established deadlines
- Must possess a valid, state issued driver’s license
- Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance
- Must be a U.S. citizen
SALARY
The expected salary range for this position is $68,660.80 to $83,220.80 annually.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting with occasional use of computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required.
Travel to remote company work locations may be required.
