About this role

Vice President of Finance | Strategic Executive Leadership Opportunity

Indianapolis, Indiana | 100% In-Office

Drive Strategy. Take Ownership. Build Value.

Jack Laurie Group is seeking an experienced Vice President of Finance to join our executive leadership team and help shape the next chapter of our company.

This is a 100% in-office leadership position based at our Indianapolis headquarters. This is not a remote or hybrid role. We believe this position requires a leader who is present, engaged, and working side-by-side with ownership, company leadership, the Finance team, and Operations.

We are a privately owned, entrepreneurial organization, and we are looking for a finance leader who thrives in that type of environment—someone who wants real ownership of their role, direct access to company ownership and leadership, and the opportunity to make a measurable impact on the business.

This is not a traditional corporate finance position where you simply manage the numbers and report results.

We are looking for a leader who will own the Finance and Accounting function, partner directly with ownership, the President, and company leadership, and help drive better business decisions across the organization.

The right person will be strategic enough to help shape the future of the company while remaining hands-on enough to understand what is happening inside the business.

Construction Accounting and Finance experience is strongly preferred, particularly experience with job costing, WIP reporting, project profitability, revenue recognition, forecasting, and the financial realities of a project-based business.

Experience working within a privately held, entrepreneur-owned, or family-owned business is also a strong plus. We value leaders who understand that these environments can move quickly, require flexibility, and provide an opportunity to work directly with the people who own and operate the business.

Ultimately, we are looking for a great fit—a strong financial leader who wants accountability, autonomy, and ownership while being part of a leadership team that works closely together to grow the company.

What You'll Own

As Vice President of Finance, you will have executive-level responsibility for the financial health, performance, and direction of the organization.

You will:

  • Serve as the primary financial advisor to the President, ownership, and executive leadership team.

  • Take ownership of the company's Accounting and Finance function and continuously improve how Finance supports the business.

  • Present financial analysis, recommendations, risks, and opportunities to ownership, leadership, and the Board of Directors.

  • Participate in quarterly Board meetings as the organization's financial leader.

  • Help shape long-term company strategy through strong financial and business leadership.

  • Develop and execute financial strategies supporting sustainable and profitable growth.

  • Drive initiatives that improve EBITDA, profitability, cash flow, working capital, and enterprise value.

  • Evaluate investments, capital expenditures, financing opportunities, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.

  • Develop meaningful KPIs, dashboards, and financial scorecards that help leadership make better decisions.

  • Bring financial discipline and accountability to the organization without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.

Construction & Operational Finance

This role must understand how Finance connects directly to project execution and operational performance.

Construction or specialty contracting finance experience is strongly preferred.

You will partner closely with Operations, Estimating, Purchasing, Sales, and Project Management to understand and improve:

  • Job Costing

  • Work-in-Progress (WIP) Reporting

  • Gain/Fade Analysis

  • Project Forecasting

  • Revenue Recognition

  • Labor Productivity

  • Project Profitability

  • Margin Management

  • Cost Controls

  • Change Order Financial Impact

  • Cash Flow and Working Capital

  • Forecast Accuracy

You will help operational leaders understand the financial side of their business and translate financial information into practical actions that improve project and company performance.

Financial Strategy & Business Performance

  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning.

  • Analyze profitability by division, customer, market, and project.

  • Identify opportunities to improve margins, cash flow, and working capital.

  • Strengthen forecasting accuracy and financial visibility across the organization.

  • Build scalable financial systems and processes that support continued growth.

  • Partner with company leadership to establish financial objectives and create accountability around results.

  • Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities before they become problems.

  • Help leadership understand not only what happened, but why it happened and what we should do next.

Accounting & Finance Leadership

Provide executive oversight of all Accounting and Finance functions across the organization, including:

  • Financial Reporting

  • Month-End Close

  • General Ledger

  • Accounts Payable

  • Accounts Receivable

  • Payroll

  • Treasury & Cash Management

  • Banking Relationships

  • Audit Coordination

  • Tax Compliance

  • Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Financial Planning & Analysis

You will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting while continuously improving systems, processes, controls, and reporting capabilities.

We want strong financial controls and discipline, but we also want a leader who understands how to build processes that support the business rather than slow it down.

Lead the Team

We are looking for a leader who takes ownership while also developing the people around them.

You will:

  • Build, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Accounting and Finance team.

  • Establish clear expectations and accountability.

  • Develop future leaders within the Finance organization.

  • Create opportunities for professional growth.

  • Lead with a hands-on, servant-leadership approach.

  • Build strong relationships throughout Operations, Sales, Purchasing, Project Management, and company leadership.

  • Maintain a visible, in-office leadership presence and remain closely connected to the day-to-day business.

  • Lead change and process improvement while bringing people along with you.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven senior-level Finance and Accounting leadership experience.

  • Construction Accounting/Finance experience is strongly preferred, particularly within commercial construction, specialty contracting, or another project-based environment.

  • Experience with job costing, WIP reporting, project profitability, forecasting, and revenue recognition.

  • Experience working within a privately held, entrepreneur-owned, or family-owned organization is a plus.

  • Previous experience as a Vice President of Finance, CFO, Corporate Controller, Director of Finance, or similar senior financial leadership role.

  • Demonstrated ability to improve profitability, cash flow, financial visibility, controls, and business performance.

  • Strong understanding of FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, financial reporting, internal controls, and cost accounting.

  • Experience developing KPIs, dashboards, and executive-level financial reporting.

  • Ability to build and improve financial systems and processes as an organization grows.

  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop Accounting and Finance professionals.

  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand operations beyond the Finance department.

  • Executive presence and the ability to work directly with ownership, company leadership, and the Board.

  • Ability to communicate complex financial information in a practical, straightforward way.

  • Must be comfortable working 100% in-office at our Indianapolis headquarters. This position is not remote or hybrid.

The Type of Leader Who Will Thrive Here

You want ownership of your role.

You don't need a large corporate structure telling you exactly what to do. You are comfortable identifying what needs to happen, developing a plan, communicating it to leadership, and taking responsibility for execution.

You enjoy working directly with owners and company leadership and understand the speed, accountability, and entrepreneurial mindset that comes with a privately owned business.

You value being present with your team. You want to work alongside the people you lead, collaborate face-to-face with other departments, and be involved in the day-to-day business. This is an in-office leadership culture, and we're looking for someone who wants that environment.

You think like a business leader who happens to be an expert in Finance.

You understand construction and project-based financial performance and know that the numbers only tell part of the story.

You are willing to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and bring solutions to the table.

You can move comfortably between a Board meeting, a conversation with ownership, a project profitability review with Operations, and a coaching conversation with someone on your Accounting team.

You want the ability to make an impact without navigating layers of unnecessary corporate bureaucracy.

Most importantly, you want to own something, build something, and leave it better than you found it.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $175,000–$200,000, based on experience

  • Generous executive performance-based bonus structure

  • Comprehensive executive benefits package

  • Opportunity to directly influence the financial performance, strategy, and long-term success of a growing privately held company

Why Jack Laurie Group?

At Jack Laurie Group, Finance is not simply a reporting function. It should be a strategic partner to the business.

As our Vice President of Finance, you will have a seat at the executive table and work directly with ownership, the President, company leadership, and the Board of Directors.

You'll have the autonomy to take ownership of the Finance function while having direct access to the people making the company's most important decisions.

You'll help us strengthen financial performance, improve operations, develop our people, and build a Finance organization capable of supporting the company's continued growth.

This role is intentionally in-office. We believe the relationships, collaboration, visibility, and leadership required for this position are best accomplished by being present with the team.

If you're looking for another remote or hybrid corporate finance position, this isn't it.

But if you're looking for an opportunity where you can take ownership, work directly with company ownership and leadership, build a great team, and see the impact of your decisions on the business, we'd like to talk.
