Job Title:                          Tool and Die Maker

General Function: To build, repair and maintain dies, tooling, and fixtures to support production
 
Job Duties:       
  • Builds and repairs machine shop tools using machining operations and measuring instruments. Works from blueprints and sketches to create or modify tools, dies, jigs and molds.
  • Build or repair equipment such as dies, and die sections, utilizing blueprints, sketches, descriptions, templates, etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on tools and equipment utilized in the Toolroom
  • Operates various machines such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders to machine parts
  • Keeps work area clean and uncluttered by removing scrap pieces from machinery, floors and properly disposing of scrap
  • May be required to go to the area where the finished product is installed to observe or adjust the part or equipment as needed.
  • Other job duties and projects as assigned
 
Working Conditions
  • Plant environment with seasonal changes in temperature and humidity
  • Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling under or over, and frequent climbing stairs
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, prying, and dragging heavy materials up to 50 pounds
  • Overtime is mandatory when business conditions require additional hours.
Education & Experience:  
Must possess a Journeyman’s Tool and Die Maker’s card or certification of having completed a U.S. Department of Labor recognized apprenticeship as a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker, or have 8 years of proven experience working as a Tool and Die Maker in a manufacturing environment, along with experience on large deep drawn stamping dies and be self-motivated. Experience with resistance welding is a plus.
 
Requirements:
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, reference material, diagrams, or other manufacturer’s material related to the products to be machined.
  • Familiar with machinery tools such as lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
  • Good shop mathematics knowledge.
  • Knowledge of various measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, and tape measures. 
  • Able to machine a product within correct tolerances and dimensions utilizing tooling equipment and proper procedures.
  • Must be able to set up and operate all tool room equipment
  • Understand and work within all safety rules
  • Proper operation of forklift
  • Proper operation of hoists and cranes Able to load and feed steel and material into dies.
  • Knowledge of how to adjust for steel/material alignment in dies. Perform re-set ups and die changeovers
  • Proper use of OD & ID Micrometers, Calipers, Height Gages, Thread Gages, and Dial Indicators.
