ABOUT THE ROLE
|
The Civil Engineer is a shared resource covering grading, drainage, utilities, and site design review across Hut 8's data center projects, supporting permitting and site development packages from diligence through construction. You are the owner's civil eyes across a portfolio of fast-moving sites: catching design problems before they become field problems, and keeping permits off the critical path. Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following: Site Design ReviewReview civil packages across projects - grading and earthwork balance, storm drainage and detention, wet and dry utilities, roadways and access, erosion and sediment control - for constructability, code compliance, and alignment with program standards. Verify civil design supports equipment logistics: heavy-haul routes, crane pads, and laydown. Permitting & Entitlements SupportSupport permitting strategy and submittals with pre-construction and consultants: site development permits, SWPPP/NPDES, floodplain and drainage approvals, utility permits, and DOT access. Track review cycles, drive comment responses, and escalate when agencies threaten the schedule. Utility & Site Infrastructure CoordinationCoordinate water, sewer, gas, and telecom infrastructure design with serving utilities and the HV team's substation site needs - shared corridors, easements, and crossing conflicts. Construction SupportRespond to civil RFIs and field issues; review submittals, shop drawings, and mix designs; support earthwork QA/QC decisions (compaction, subgrade acceptance, dewatering) with CSA superintendents and project engineers. Diligence & Early WorksSupport site diligence for new projects: grading feasibility, drainage constraints, geotech review coordination, and early-works packages that let construction mobilize before full design completes. Program StandardsMaintain civil design standards, typical details, and specification updates across the portfolio; capture lessons learned from each site into the next. |
