Horizon Farm Credit is seeking a total of three full-time Lending interns, one intern per region, for the summer of 2027. Interns will participate in a 10-12 week internship based out of an office within the Horizon Territory. The intern’s location during the summer of 2027 will be considered prior to placement. Summer Intern hours are typically Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The internship program is scheduled to run from mid-May through early August 2027. Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and unofficial transcript through the application link by October 30.
Position Overview:
As a Lending intern, you’ll explore multiple career paths in a field office and gain valuable on-the-job experience with various departments. Interns will have the opportunity to work on specific projects or tasks and participate in meetings and presentations relevant to their work. While the intern will formally report to one manager, who will serve as a mentor, we believe broad exposure to our Association makes for a more valuable internship experience. You will also have the opportunity to network with industry professionals, participate in social events with other interns, and give back to the community.
Areas of Responsibility:
  • Exposure to a variety of roles and responsibilities, providing a holistic view of how Farm Credit supports its customers and community members.
  • Discover different loan servicing options and work to gather appropriate documentation to initiate the request.
  • Assist in gathering and organizing customer information for pre-call planning, including assisting in the development of sales presentations.  
  • Work with Lending Officers in job shadowing activities, including participation in sales calls, customer field visits, sales meetings, sales tracking and reporting, and pipeline management.
  • Work with Lending Officers on new loan activity from application to decision.
  • Observe various loan functions from Origination through Closing.
  • Attend team meetings to gain a deeper understanding of HFC’s departments and processes.
  • Networking opportunities with teammates, industry partners, and fellow interns.
  • Assist in projects and initiatives that seek to improve department processes and performance.
Requirements:
  • Ambitious student currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree program in Finance, Business Administration, Ag Business, or related field.
  • Preferred expected graduation dates between May 2028 – December 2029.
  • Strong academic background and a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Knowledge of agriculture and agricultural operations is preferred, but not necessary.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision and proven self-starter.
  • Detail-oriented, independent judgment skills, strong organizational skills.
  • Flexible to a changing work environment.
