About this role
The Point of Care Testing (POCT) Specialist will assist in developing, maintaining and improving the Quality Management System for POCT to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements. The POCT Specialist responsibilities include: researching new or improved technologies, review and evaluation of requests for POCT, evaluation of selected equipment in collaboration with discipline technical specialists, facilitates the implementation of POCT equipment, methodology and Quality Assurance programs for each application, consults and liaises with users regarding result interpretation, limitations of equipment and methodologies to improve quality of testing. Provides technical expertise in investigation and resolving technical and clinical problems, develops training, content and processes for POCT in collaboration with the Clinical Educators and equipment manufacturers for the performance of testing, quality control, calibration and proficiency testing. Develops standard operating procedures for the performance of testing and quality assurance. Coordinates and monitors daily, weekly, monthly QA activities and operator certification and maintains a personal education program that supports the role of the POCT Technical Specialist.
1. Advanced Registered Technologist or BSc in a related science or Bachelor of Technology preferred
2. Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario
3. Degree/certificate from a recognized Health Management Program preferred
4. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Quality Management Systems and Point of Care Testing
5. Demonstrated strong leadership, organization and facilitation skills, customer service orientation, problem solving and project management skills
6. Demonstrated experience in the application of integrated computer systems software
7. Demonstrated strong communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change
8. Demonstrated knowledge of Laboratory Standards and Regulations
9. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office
10. Recognized academic qualification in either, Quality Management, Business Management, or Project Management would be an asset
