Based in Montreal and reporting to the Executive Vice President, the Vice President, Legal Affairs is responsible for leading the activities of the Legal Department. The incumbent oversees real estate transactions and ensures regulatory compliance.
- Develop and implement legal strategies to support the company’s commercial real estate activities;
- Oversee all legal aspects of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, commercial leases, and litigation matters;
- Provide strategic legal advice on all matters related to commercial real estate;
- Lead and manage the Legal team;
- Negotiate, draft, and review contractual agreements, including leases, purchase and sale agreements, and construction contracts;
- Ensure compliance with applicable municipal, provincial, and federal laws and regulations;
- Work closely with various departments to ensure legal consistency across all operations;
- Identify potential legal risks and implement mitigation strategies;
- Oversee corporate matters, including governance and internal tax-related matters;
- Maintain regular communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B. or LL.L.) and member in good standing of the Quebec Bar;
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant experience, including significant experience in commercial real estate;
- Proven experience managing complex real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and commercial leases;
- Strong team management and leadership experience;
- Excellent knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to real estate and corporate law;
- Experience managing litigation matters and negotiating major contracts;
- Strong analytical, risk management, and strategic decision-making skills;
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders;
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment and manage multiple matters simultaneously;
- Bilingual in French and English;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
