About this role
We are looking for a Senior M&A Counsel with 6-8 years of experience to own and run startup acquisitions and exit transactions end-to-end for General Legal's growing roster of clients. This is a specialized, execution-focused role where you'll be the go-to attorney handling all M&A matters - from LOI through closing - using AI-native workflows at a firm that's rethinking how legal services are delivered.
What will you be doing?
Leading M&A transactions end-to-end for startup clients and their acquirers — stock/asset acquisitions, acqui-hires, earnout structures, and company sale processes
Serving as the primary point of contact for founders and management teams, advising on corporate, IP, employment, and governance issues throughout deals
Negotiating directly with buyer-side and seller-side counsel, leveraging deep knowledge of market M&A terms
Using and refining AI-native workflows and playbooks to move deals faster than traditional firms
Completely owning the M&A vertical — this person will be the dedicated M&A specialist for the firm
Key Requirements
6+ years of M&A experience (leaning towards 7-8 years), specifically in the startup ecosystem (acquisitions of early/growth-stage companies, acqui-hires, asset deals, founder exits)
Big Law background required — firms like Cooley, Orrick, Fenwick, Wilson Sonsini, Gunderson, Goodwin, Latham, or similar
Must have handled M&A deals end-to-end without hand-holding — not just supported them
T14 to T50 law school (T14 preferred)
Admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing
