About the Role

This is both a hands-on and strategic role. The right person will be comfortable and confident helping an associate navigate a complex coverage issue and managing the details of benefits administration. They will also lead annual enrollment and renewals, evaluate plan performance and costs, advise leadership, and help shape our approach to associate wellbeing.

As Geiger continues to grow, this role will also play an important part in supporting benefits-related activities associated with mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, benefits assessment, integration planning, associate communications, and the transition of acquired associates into Geiger programs.

This role offers the flexibility to work remotely within New England or hybrid from our Lewiston, Maine office. To support connection and collaboration with the team, remote associates will spend approximately one week onsite in Lewiston each quarter.

What You'll Do

  • Lead U.S. benefits administration, including medical, dental, vision, life, FMLA and disability leaves, HSA/FSA, EAP, 401(k), COBRA, voluntary benefits, and related programs.

  • Serve as a senior resource for associates and managers, explaining complex benefit provisions, resolving enrollment and claims issues, and providing thoughtful, high-touch support during sensitive life events.

  • Manage benefit program operations, including enrollments, qualifying life events, terminations, coverage changes, eligibility audits, carrier feeds, records, and documentation across HRIS, payroll, and vendor systems.

  • Lead annual enrollment and renewal activities, including project planning, associate education and communications, executive updates, system configuration, testing, and post-enrollment audits.

  • Support benefits activities related to mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, assessment of acquired benefit programs, integration planning, implementation, associate communications, and coordination with internal and external partners.

  • Evaluate program performance using utilization, claims, enrollment, benchmarking, cost, and other relevant data, translating findings into recommendations for leadership.

  • Partner with benefit providers, brokers, consultants, and other external partners to manage service delivery, resolve issues, evaluate opportunities, and support renewals and program changes.

  • Identify opportunities to improve benefit processes, associate understanding, technology, and overall associate experience.

  • Develop and advance our associate wellbeing strategy, identifying programs and resources that support associates while evaluating participation, outcomes, and organizational value.

  • Support benefits programs outside the U.S., including the UK and Germany, partnering with local brokers, advisors, payroll teams, and other resources to maintain locally compliant and competitive programs.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience.

  • At least 10 years of progressive employee benefits experience, including substantial hands-on U.S. benefits administration and program leadership.

  • Experience supporting benefits activities associated with mergers, acquisitions, or organizational integrations, such as due diligence, plan assessment, transition planning, implementation, or associate communications.

  • Experience working in a small to midsize organization, where benefits leadership requires both strategic ownership and direct execution.

  • Demonstrated experience leading annual enrollment, renewals, vendor transitions, plan communications, audits, and HRIS or benefits-platform administration.

  • Expert knowledge of U.S. health and welfare, retirement, leave, privacy, and compliance requirements.

  • Experience developing or materially advancing associate wellbeing programs and evaluating their participation, outcomes, and value.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality associate service, exercise sound judgment, manage complex benefits administration with accuracy, and translate complex data and regulatory requirements into practical recommendations.

  • Experience supporting benefits outside the U.S. and partnering effectively with in-country brokers, advisors, payroll teams, or legal counsel is preferred.

Skills That Will Help You Succeed

  • Exceptional empathy, discretion, and sound judgment when working with sensitive information.

  • Ability to move comfortably between detailed benefits administration, associate support, project leadership, data analysis, and strategic advising.

  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, including the ability to interpret utilization, claims, enrollment, benchmarking, and cost data and turn findings into clear recommendations.

  • Strong written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to make complex benefit concepts understandable to associates, managers, executives, and external partners.

  • Advanced proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration platforms; ADP experience is strongly preferred.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and comfort using reporting, collaboration, analytics, and AI-enabled productivity tools responsibly.

  • Strong project management, vendor management, negotiation, and change-management capabilities.

  • High attention to detail, strong ownership, and the ability to independently prioritize competing demands in a fast-moving environment.

Work Environment
